It was a perfectly good plan, really. You know, if Lorenzo hadn't shown up and completely blown their cover by being so darned recognizable. Mac tried to bluff their way out of it - and he would have managed, really, if the others had played along better, but they didn't have the sense they were born with, and then they had no excuse but to run.

The third boy kicks the door shut.

"Magnificent!" he gasps. "If we keep quiet, they can't find us."

Leo gives Mac a slightly confused, puppyishly sad look.

"I'm sure it can't be just normal glass," beat, "I'm not sure that'd protect us from explosions. Unless they really aren't real."

"Let's just... pretend that whatever it is, it's protecting us, OK?"

Mac looks from Leo to Lorenzo, eyebrows raised pointedly. "You can figure out how it works without taking it apart, right?"

[molto_magnifico]

"Like look at it, or measure it, perhaps?" Lorenzo suggests.

[notquite_flying]

Grudgingly: "I suppose. Probably. But it will take longer."

"Good," Mac says, with a satisfied grin that assumes everyone's perfectly happy with this outcome.

"Meanwhile, why don't you figure out whee we are and how we got here, hmm?"

[molto_magnifico]

"Through the door?" Leonardo says, rolling his eyes. "And where should we put, erm, that stuff?"

Flaunting it isn't probably a good idea.

"We'll just keep it on us until we can find somewhere to put it," Leo says, "nobody has to know what's in the bag, after all."

Leo has decided that they can't leave yet. After all, he needs to figure out what this place is, and what's up with this window.

"Yeah, right," Mac says, turning around to face Lorenzo. "You know all the trendy places in Florence. Where are we, then?"

[molto_magnifico]

"It's near the Tre Torre,"Lorenzo says, "but it's not it, unless they secretly redecorated a lot."

He looks around.

"No, it's bigger, too."

[notquite_flying]

"Air quality's wrong for Florence," Leo says absently, still peering at the window.

"Air quality," Mac announces to the bar in general. "Leo's worried about the air quality!"

Back to Leo, he asks, "and this doesn't, I don't know, bother you in any way?"

[molto_magnifico]

"It doesn't stink," Lorenzo agrees. "No dung heaps. No dead chickens. No unwashed people. Just food and beer."

[notquite_flying]

Leo gives Lorenzo a Look, as if to say that that isn't quite how he'd put it.

To Mac, with a grin: "Should it? This is magnifico."

[auraofmystery]

"Magnifico," Mac repeats. "I can't quite believe what I'm hearing, here! We come tumbling through a door to a weird tavern that doesn't smell at all right, with a window out to who-knows-where, and all you can say is magnifico!"

He despairs of you, Leo. He really does.

"He could say fantastico?" Lorenzo suggests. "Because it really is, you know."
