There is a mermaid in the shallow waters by the rocks, quite close to the back door of the bar. She is flitting about among the sunlit wavelets, and watching people come and go.

There are some quite interesting people here.

dixie cousins, rachel, thalia grace, jordan kennedy, tamara the mermaid, luna lovegood

Thalia sits at the back door watching. She's dressed in a Misfits tshirt and ripped jeans today with no visible weapons though there is that big silver bracelet on her left arm.

She tries not to stare at the mermaid but her eyes continue to drift her way.

The mermaid leans on a rock and smiles at her.

Thalia kind of smiles back (it's more of a wince) and pulls a battered paperback out of her back pocket to start reading. Depending on how good the mermaid's sight is, and if she can read Greek, she might notice the book is The Odyssey.

"Hello," the mermaid says, still smiling. "You like old stories?"

Luna has kept a curious eye out for the mermaid ever since she heard there was one in the lake.

To the outside observer, her dreamy expression may make it hard to tell for a moment if she is really looking at the mermaid or an errant ripple.

Until she smiles a friendly smile directly at the mermaid and waves.

Tamara waves back.

"Hello there!"

"Hello."

Luna comes closer to the water's edge. (Though not too close. Among other things, a Hogwarts education teaches one to employ a certain amount of common sense and caution when dealing with intelligent magical beings with whom one is not acquainted. And Luna may be many things, but foolish isn't one of them.)

But being courteous is generally always advisable.

"How are you this evening?"

What a nice little girl!

"I like it here," Tamara declares. "So many different people!"

There is a girl with a forearm made of... metal and something else (it's not like a mermaid would know about polymers, right?), wandering along the lakeshore.

(Then again, it looks bulky enough to be some kind of gauntlet...)

Jordan is wearing shorts (daisy dukes to be exact) and a skimpy red bikini top. You can also see the side ties of her bikini bottoms above the waist of her shorts. She has sneakers on her feet.

Evil Genius seems to be relaxed and in a good mood.

Tamara is watching her. What's that thing on her arm?

Odd.

Interesting!

Jordan notices the woman in the water, and offers a nod.

Interesting...

Tamara waves to her. She wants to ask about the arm, but doesn't like to shout.

Dixie's more drawn by the song than the mermaid itself.

Natural performers are simply born that way, no offense, Tamara.

She peers off the edge of one of the rocks, wearing her traveling costume, not as drawn as a sailor would be, but interested in any event.

Cheerfully, Tamara waves to her.

Well, doesn't that beat all?

Dixie waves back. "Tell me, does it ever get cold down there in that water?"

Tamara giggles. "Oh, no, we're used to it!" she says.

There's an interesting person in the water, too.

After her discussion with Katya, Rachel is paying a little more attention to the lake. At the moment, she's on the far side of the water, quite a ways from the mermaid, and slipping in beneath the surface.

A minute or two later, the lake has another occupant.

Okay, so she'd told Katya a dolphin wouldn't be a good idea. But in salt water, it was either dolphin, hammerhead shark, or giant squid. Rachel chose the least creepy of the options.

Which might be fortunate, because Tamara really doesn't like sharks. They're either danger, or prey.

Dolphins, on the other hand, are fun, and so Tamara approaches, whistling under water.

Rachel whistles, too. Actually-- no, she clicks. That's the sound and definition of what a dolphin does, sending bursts of echolocation out into the darkness to be able to 'see' the picture it brings back.

But they also sing. Sort of. In a way that can answer Tamara.

Like she'd told Katya, dolphin instincts are hard to control, hard to stay serious with. But maybe that's a good cover, too, since the dolphin wants to meet the approaching mermaid and do a loop around her, excited and playful.

The mermaid is quite excited and playful as well, looping around the loop.

She hadn't known there were dolphins in these waters!
