Kate comes inside from checking on the stock one last time. There's been some... interesting activity outside over the last few months, not limited to the birth of a two-headed cow (who is, in the very strangest way, cute as a button), but all-in-all things continue as 'normal

"Jim," she nods, taking a gulp from her glass of whiskey. "This ain't - fresh. I'm all right. Jus' headin' back home."

She touches his shoulder gently.
"I'm sorry I gave you a fright. I'm all right. Nervous, but... whole. As of the moment."
She works her gullet.
"An' you?"

It's so rare she gets to use his own words against him; they don't sound quite right in her soft southern drawl, but then she is chuckling under her breath, too. Hopeless. Completely nonthreatening.
"I owe you one."

He orders himself a coffee with an extra espresso shot in. He's been finishing off the day room just now, and looks like he could welcome the return to a normal work schedule, rather than he current crazy one.

As bloodied up as she might be, she doesn't look like she's keeling over in pain.

"I'm fine," she quickly assures him, raising her hands. "This is how I came in, last I was out my door."
Which is far from comforting, but she's hoping he'll focus on the fact that she's not in harm's immediate way.

"So you came in nearly dead the last time then, did you?"
- he isn't distracted from that fact.

And Kate is all over the veiled comments on violence. They should go on the road with this act.

"I am," she eventually says. There's no reason to beat around the bush about it. "Not sure there's much y'could do, Master Evans."
