"You know 'Poisoning Pigeons in the Park'?" Knox grew up with Lehrer on TV, on That Was the Week That Was.

Which is good, since Knox isn't the sort to ask.

"Arthur Nielsen, South Dakota, 2010. Call me Artie."

"What are you doing out in South Dakota?" Pause. "Unless you are from there." But is anyone besides George McGovern actually from there?

"Government work."

[gotham_knocking]

"Ow. My condolences." Doesn't matter what the work is. Out there, it can't be pleasant.

"Eh." Artie shrugs. "It pays the bills. Most of the time."

[gotham_knocking]

"Must be a low cost of living, though. And government hours." He always did envy what he saw as an easy life for bureaucrats.

Artie lets out a huff of laughter. "Ohh no. We don't get bank holidays off. Trust me."

"Ahhh. That sort of job." Military. Or something else sensitive. "I thought that would get you a good paycheck."

"Yeah, you'd think so, but..." He shrugs again.

"Anything to do out there?"

[doyousmellfudge]

"Not a great deal, if you're not a farmer," says Artie. "But I get by."

"So just biding your time till you can retire. Seems like a waste." If only because no one should be forced to live in either Dakota.

"Oh, they keep me busy enough," says Artie. "More than busy enough."

"Good thing you have the Bar to escape to."
