Dean's changing the Impala's oil, which is more than fine with Sam, who's on a different mission entirely.

He's got a corner booth with a good view of the room, Dad's journal on the table in front of him, and a cup or three of coffee near at hand.

Looks like it's gonna be a long night.

There is a quiet thump as Raven drops into a seat next to Sam.

He picks up one of those three cups of coffee.

Now it is tea.

Then, very considerately, he gives it back to Sam.

Generosity is Raven's middle name.

Or it would be. If he had a middle name.

"You, I think, are not so much for cookies, yes?"

Sam eyes the transmuted tea warily, lifts it to Raven in salute, and sets it on the table.

"Not especially?"

Raven snorts.

Loudly.

"Mostly that is not a question, I am thinking."

Unless Sam is unsure of his own preferences.

These things happen.

It is very sad.

"Hey, a guy's gotta be sure."

Especially when dealing with a trickster.

Andrew's passing by on his way from the bar to the fireplace, with a mug of coffee and a chocolate crumb doughnut on a plate.

He allows himself time enough for one quick breath before he waves his hand back and forth in the air to flag the other guy down.

"Andrew, hey." Sam manages a smile, but the look in his eyes is serious. "How's it going?"

"Not bad," he says, coming to a halt. "You?"

Something's up.

"Could be worse," he says, and winces a little as he hears the words.

"... actually, it was worse there for a while. But that's, uh, kind of a long story..."

"Sam!"

Ava has shed her reindeer antlers in favor of her silver headband, and is currently bouncing her purple-sweater-and-sweatpantsed way towards Sam's booth.

"Ava, hi."

He closes the journal and nods to her.

"How's it going?"

Ava knows from hiding reading material, but gives the notebook only a down-and-up flicker of attention.

She's got bigger fish to fry tonight, kids.

"I'm great," she says pleasantly.

"I got you a Christmas present."

"... you..."

Wait, what?

No, seriously. What?

"... it was Christmas?"

A photograph flutters down like a gracefully falling autumn leaf and settles atop the journal.

Sam picks it up, and stares at it for a long, long moment.

"... son of a bitch."

"What, no 'thank you' for giving up primo blackmail material?"

Guess who, Winchester!

His jaw clenches. Hard.

Through tightly-gritted teeth,

"Thank you."

Someone is apparently trying to set him on fire with only her eyes, all the way across the room.

This being Coyote, maybe Sam should be worried about her being able to pull it off.

Maybe he should.

Instead, Sam catches her glance, holds it for a second or two, then gives her a nod.

She narrows her eyes even further.

The crumpled up napkins on his table start to smoulder.

He snatches up the journal with one hand and dumps his cup of coffee sideways over the napkins with the other.

"Watch it," he grits out.
