There is a quiet man in a suit at a table, doing his best to deface a Gideon's Bible. Right now, he's working on the story of Jephthas's daughter -- not a particularly graphic series of drawings, but interesting enough ( Read more... )

"You know, he really rather reminds me of our new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher."

Luna has wandered up beside Teller, and is giving the other man (the loud one she saw from the rafters not to long ago) a bemused look.

"He tends to shout. He doesn't throw knives at us, but I think that may just be because it's not occurred to him to try yet."

That would be one way for Professor Moody to enforce his Rule #1. Constant Vigilance.

Penn doesn't often throw knives; just enough that Teller's rather used to it by now.

"Who's your friend?" Penn asked from nearby.

Teller rolls his eyes and offers Luna a bit of apple. Throwing knives aren't very good at cutting things, but it'll do for now.

"Luna Lovegood," Luna replies politely.

She smiles and accepts the piece of apple.

"Thank you, Teller. How are you this evening?"

Teller finds that ignoring Penn is the best way to make him go away. So that's what he does.

He smiles warmly at her, nodding. He's doing pretty good today.

"She's a little young for you, isn't she?" Penn calls out, laughing.

Penn is an idiot. This is why Teller ignores him.

Teller rolls his eyes up at the fellow in the rafters.

"You want one too, Skippy?" Penn asks.

Oh, boy.

Penn pulls back to throw another knife at the guy in the rafters, but he seems to change his mind at the last second.

"Nah, not worth it," he decides.

He's already had cell time once for doing exactly this sort of thing.

Sariel's heard that loud voice before. It's enough to make her look up from her book (she's not defacing it, just reading it) and over. Just in time to... oh, mother of--

She's no security officer, but when someone is having sharp objects slung at them, the average Starfleet officer is going to react. "Teller, look--" knife, meet chair leg. "--out!" She's on her feet by the end of her warning.

Teller doesn't seem very bothered by this. In fact, it almost looks as though he takes a few moments to even notice that Penn is doing anything stupid.

When he notices Sariel, he smiles and offers her a bit of his apple.

Sariel's close enough that it doesn't take very long at all to close the distance between herself and Teller. That book's abandoned, for now. The startled, dismayed expression is not. It's being turned on the knife now in Teller's hand, then Penn, and back and forth a time or two more.

"... Were you expecting that?" She sounds a little dubious, not to mention disconcerted. She'll get round to accepting the apple tidbit in a second.

He looks down at the mark the knife left in the chair, and then shakes his head calmly.

Nope, not expecting that, specifically. Expecting Penn to do something stupid? Definitely.

There's a vague snort to the left of the (half-giant, four year old, annoying crush, not!magician) knife-thrower. Just within his peripheral view. "You know he isn't going to pay you any mind if you're going to act like a toddler. . ."

Alba trails off in a teasing drawl, slouching down into the nearest seat and kicking her feet up on another chair.

"Or any attention at all."

She's right. Teller completely ignores him.

Still, Penn brightens when he sees her.

"Why don't you come over here?" he asks, indicating next to himself on the sofa.

"Why not? You're a comfortable sort of lounge seat."

Slips out of the chair, and walks over as leisurely as she pleases.

She doesn't sit, she sprawls.

"If you keep acting like that, they're all going to think you're aiming at him him." She cants her head to indicate his partner, "--when I can really tell that you're not even close. Also, you're damaging the bar furniture."

Sprawling was exactly the sort of thing he was hoping for, actually. He sort of manhandles her into putting her feet up on his lap.

"I don't even think he notices," Penn says, slipping Alba's shoes off and setting them aside.
