A Medic walks into the Bar, catches sight of the tab recall sign, thinks for a moment, then walks out again. Shortly thereafter he returns with a large stand-up sign and a sheaf of papers. What does the sign say? We're glad you asked.

"Greetings, Herr Medic," Teja says, politely, turning up beside the table not long after the sign was put up.

"Curious," Teja says. "Does that sign mean you're looking for volunteers for your ceaseless war?"

That last isn't said in criticism; if anything, there is eagerness in the Ostrogoth's voice.

"Indeed," says the Medic. "If we take zem on purposely und ensure zat zey haf proper orientation und equipment, zey will be compensated for fighting a full day's battle. It seemed an opportune moment to do a little recruiting."

"It's a funny thing," Sam says, after giving the sign quite a bit of consideration. "I know what your sign says, but I'm not sure I follow all of what you're saying."
It's the guns and explosives tripping him up. The part about the money is rather straightforward, and he suspects 'do you have eight hours to kill?' is a loaded question.

"Ah, well-" The Medic shrugs. "I am employed by a company zat builds infrastructure in many parts of mein world, und it happens zat we haf corporate rivals, und instead of ze rivalry of barristers und courtrooms it has become a rivalry of guns und explosives. A fairly consistent und regular rivalry in fact. Consider it ze equivalent of- hmm- a mercenary company beating ze drums for a few extra recruits."

"Ah. I think it's the tools of the trade where you lost me."
It's not fault of the Medic's, just... one of those differences between worlds.

The Medic nods. "We maintain a supply of standardised weapons und ammunition," he says, "und for individuals whose preference runs to engineering und ze use of siege guns instead of personal armament, ze tools necessary to maintain ammunition dispensers und similar products. It makes repairs und stock-keeping significantly easier."
