"D0G, seriously, you don't have to do this..."

The front door opens and a nine-foot-tall combat droid walks in. His owner is currently being cradled in the crook of one arm, as one might carry a small child. She looks less than enthused about this.

"I know you're supposed to protect me, but I'm not sick. I'm pregnant. There's a difference."

"Pregnant?" Charlie is in the rafters. Charlie has good hearing.

"Yeah." Alyx waves up at him with her free hand. "Hi, Charlie. It's been a while, hasn't it?"

[52_dropoff]

"A couple of months, at least." He watches the girl and her robot proceed further into the bar. "Congratulations."

"Thanks," says Alyx. She gives D0G a wry look. "Unfortunately, this knucklehead doesn't quite get what that means."

Mwooo! D0G sounds offended.

[aaaaaaaagh_sky]

Ellen's in the process of reassembling a robotic horse's head. It's slow going. D0G's arrival is distracting enough to jerk her head up, eyes wide. "Alyx? D0G?"

"Hi, Ellen," says Alyx wearily.

Mwoop! says D0G. He'd wave, but his hands are occupied holding Alyx up and holding himself up.

[aaaaaaaagh_sky]

Ellen puts the horsehead aside. "You're welcome to sit at my table if you want," she says. "Would that be good enough for you to put her down, D0G?"

Ellen is sort of used to eccentric robots with weird end-of-duty markers.

D0G cants his head to one side for a moment, considering this. Then: Wee-rrp. He lumbers over to Ellen's table, pulls a chair out, and delicately sets Alyx down in a sitting position.

"Really D0g," Annabelle says with a shake of her head. "She's right. It'll be months and months before she gets anywhere near the waddling stage."

Alyx facepalms. "Oh, Lord, I don't even wanna think about how he's gonna react once I start really gaining weight."

Mwrp? inquires D0G, puzzled.

"The babies are going to be growing inside Alyx," Annabelle explains to D0G. "That means Alyx is going to weigh more because it's not just her anymore."

!! D0G looks at Alyx in alarm, as though expecting her to swell up before his very eyes. (Eye?)

At first, Kaidan just catches sight of D0G [and ultimately Alyx], out of the corner of his eye. A moment later, the marine is on his feet, his Biotic aura flickering into view.

Maybe if he distracts the Colossus-sized...thing, he can get the woman to safety. Quickly, he gathers the energy for a Slam.

"Hey, you!"

Bwoop? D0G eyes the man curiously. Why is he glowing like that?

Okay, the synthetic isn't attacking just yet, and the woman doesn't look to be too panicked, but he stays ready just in case.

"Are you alright, ma'am? Hold on a second and I'll see about getting you away."

BrrrWAAP! squawks D0G indignantly.

"No, no, it's okay!" Alyx protests. "He's mine, he's not trying to hurt me--"

[md_donighal]

"You're pregnant?" blurts the man in the gray suit. "Congratulations! Especially since it implies the suppression field is down!"

"It's been down for ages," remarks Alyx with a raised eyebrow. "Ever since the dark fusion reactor blew. Didn't anyone tell you?"

[md_donighal]

"I can't seem to recall it coming up in my conversations with Gordon. When he was telling me about the explosion, he'd just been yanked from the immediate aftermath of the blast; the next time we spoke, he had more immediate worries, like your father's death and That Thing's latest twisted games." A sigh. "I wish I'd gotten to meet Eli Vance himself, rather than just some of the lives he shaped for the better." He looks at her abdomen as if he could see into it.*

* He could if he chose, but he's not sure how the contents would react to his high-end EM scan. It doesn't use that many actual X-rays, but better to err on the side of caution, he figures.

Subdued, Alyx looks down at roughly the same spot. "I still miss him," she admits. "But... I guess he's at least gonna get the grandkids he wanted?"
