"D0G, seriously, you don't have to do this..."

The front door opens and a nine-foot-tall combat droid walks in. His owner is currently being cradled in the crook of one arm, as one might carry a small child. She looks less than enthused about this.

"I know you're supposed to protect me, but I'm not sick. I'm pregnant. There's a difference."

At first, Kaidan just catches sight of D0G [and ultimately Alyx], out of the corner of his eye. A moment later, the marine is on his feet, his Biotic aura flickering into view.

Maybe if he distracts the Colossus-sized...thing, he can get the woman to safety. Quickly, he gathers the energy for a Slam.

"Hey, you!"

Bwoop? D0G eyes the man curiously. Why is he glowing like that?

Okay, the synthetic isn't attacking just yet, and the woman doesn't look to be too panicked, but he stays ready just in case.

"Are you alright, ma'am? Hold on a second and I'll see about getting you away."

BrrrWAAP! squawks D0G indignantly.

"No, no, it's okay!" Alyx protests. "He's mine, he's not trying to hurt me--"

The reassurance brings a look of confusion from the man, and slowly the blue glowy-ness fades.

"He's...yours?"

[a_mere_child]

"Yes. His name's D0G. I built him. Well, this model, anyway."

The robot nods.

The sceptical eyeing continues.

"And this...D0G...is an Synthetic AI?"

[a_mere_child]

Kaidan is being eyed skeptically back. "...yes? What else would he be?"

[notamutant]

He shrugs.

"Remote controlled, pre-programed, Geth. I'm not sure."

[a_mere_child]

"Geth?" she echoes with a puzzled frown. Then her eyes go wide. "Oh. Ohhhh. You're Kaidan, aren't you? Kaidan Alenko?"

That just serves to raise more suspicion from the marine, and both of Kaidan's eyebrows raise.

"I don't think we've met before, have we?"

[a_mere_child]

"No." Alyx takes a deep breath. "I was a friend of Colene Shepard."

[notamutant]

A brief, pained look flickers across his face before Kaidan manages to stifle it, though his shoulders remain drooped.

"Oh."

Eloquent Kaidan is eloquent.

A look of deep sympathy crosses her face. "I'm so sorry."

[notamutant]

He scrubs at his face with a long sigh.

"S'alright. Thanks."

[a_mere_child]

Alyx wriggles out of D0G's grip (he squawks, faintly, but doesn't try to pick her up again) and walks over to Kaidan.

"If you want a sympathetic ear..."
