Not long afterwards, Captain Mrs Turner's trusty boatswain enters. And spots her standing transfixed at the bulletin board.

Which he can actually read with a bit of effort. His literacy is getting better.

Elizabeth glances at him out of the corner of her eye.

"In the woods." Beat. "I was under the impression that the rules weren't quite as strict beyond those doors."

She nods toward the lake.

"We both know that sometimes rules are more like guidelines. That can works in both directions." He ponders the name. He ponders Elizabeth's face. "I assume that the captain knew this Mister Rosen?"

"I've never heard the name," Elizabeth informs him.

This is true.

"I am plagued by simple curiosity, that's all."

This is not.

She does a one quarter turn and faces him, smiling slightly.

Stiffening, Elizabeth turns a flat look on the girl. She's not so much startled as vaguely annoyed at the stealth with which the newcomer approached.

"I am perfectly well," she announces.

To exhibit this, she takes a sip of lukewarm tea.

X tilts her head slightly, flicking a glance between Elizabeth and the poster.

"Okay."

Dubious X is dubious.

"You have met him? The one who was killed."

She had, after all, been standing in front of the noticeboard for a very long time.

"I've met lots of people," Elizabeth says, mildly, "but not him, I don't believe. I would have recalled the name."

One eyebrow arches.

"Who was he?"

She doesn't seem overly bothered by the fact that this West fellow died in the woods.
