Charlie is on the other end of the same couch with a glass of water and a bottle of pills. He's given up trying to open the damn thing right this moment and just laid his head back against the cushions.
If he trusted himself with alcohol or herbal cigarettes he'd have them right now, but unfortunately, he doesn't.
The back cushions of the couch shift under the sudden weight of a very white cat leaping up onto them. It looks at Nathaniel with curious green eyes.
If Yrael's nose doesn't deceive him (and it's been pretty trustworthy so far), that's a wereleopard. The lingering scents of Jason and Liz help support that conclusion.
"Myow?" it inquires, curious. This is a wereleopard it doesn't know.
Maybe if he'd gotten more sleep last night, he'd smell that instantly, but it takes a moment.
And then he smells it.
"You don't smell like a cat. Not really," he says, slowly and carefully withdrawing his hand. "You look like a cat and sound like a cat, but you aren't really a cat, are you?"
There's a hand on Nathaniel's head offering scritches despite the fact that he's still in human form. It's a short scritch though as she settles herself on the arm of the couch, head tilted just slightly.

"Would you like me to open that for you?" he asks.

When he does it's gonna be one hell of a double-take. "We don't have childproof caps in my world. I hate them."

"Don't you have kids in your world?" Nathaniel presses down and twists, opening the bottle easily and handing it back.

"Hello." He's not yet met anything that wasn't what it seems, and so he blindly scritches the cat.

The cat sniffs the hand before leaning into it, purring enthusiastically.

He gets a tired smile from her as the air is filled with the scents of Summer, the full air right before a storm.
Reply
"You smell like summer. It smells clean and safe."
He'd missed feeling safe, and just when he thought he'd found it again, the safety had been ripped away from him.

He's so young and she's getting tired of old and young hurting around her.

He tilts his head.
"Jason mentioned a lot of different kinds of people coming here."
But she smells safe, and so he sets aside his coffee and, like the cat he is, slinks over to her, curling against her side.
She even has a brief underscent of Jason himself. Might explain where Jason was half the night.

THe boy there looks like he might be fun.
"Hello, there," she said looking at him.

"You look almost as board as I am," she said.

This was a new place with too many new people and too many new scents.
It wasn't what Nathaniel would call 'safe'.

"How you fairing, Kitten?"

He smiles up at her, appreciating the scritches.
"Just... tired."

"Not sleeping well?"

It's good Yrael taught her, because Nathaniel is melting.
"Maybe it'll get better."
