Indeed, Wanderer has gotten quite used to carrying on polite conversations without ever touching upon the fact of what she is; that is, of course, because she's spent most of the past few weeks on Earth, and there she is exactly what she is supposed to be

"I didn't say nothin'," says a man. He's obviously not a normal human--too tall, for a start. If this puts Wanderer at ease, all the better.

"I wasn't talking to you," Wanderer replies, sounding more apologetic than annoyed.

She hadn't meant to do that; it's just that she hasn't had a moment's peace inside her head all day.

"Than who were yew talkin' ter?"

Go ahead, tell him. Make a few more enemies.

"It's complicated and most people don't like the answer," she admits, still too honest for her own good, but learning to at least attempt to get around the question.

"What?"

Confused Jenny is confused. And slightly worried as she approaches with two glasses of chocolate milkshake.

Wanderer shakes her head and forces a smile. Jenny was nice to her before; she's genuinely glad to see her again.

"It's nothing -- I've just had a difficult day. Hello again!"

"Hello, Wanderer!" Jenny holds out one of the milkshakes, smiling back genuinely herself. "Milkshake? I've been told they're good for bad days."

"I'd love one, thank you."

Wanderer accepts the offered milkshake -- normally she'd pick strawberry because Melanie disliked them, but she liked chocolate just as well and at this point she wasn't feeling up to any more internal arguments.

"Will you sit and talk for a while?"

[ratatouiller]

Nope, no attention has been caught here.

Don't mind the greyish rat reading a large cookbook nearby.

Well, that's fascinating.

Wanderer stares for a bit before deciding it can't possibly hurt to say hello. The rat probably isn't actually reading... but then again, she's not one to rule such things out. She used to be a giant, super-intelligent spider.

"Excuse me?"

The rat turns to glance at Wanderer, curious as to whether it was he whom she was calling to.

She does seem to be staring at him.

He smiles, ears twitching. "Bonjour," he says. "Can I help you?"

"Oh! You do speak, then? That's fascinating. I've never seen a rat who does."

She doesn't seem alarmed by this. Just curious.
