You'd be amazed, really, at the number of people Spoon knows who tend to do that. Enough that he's breaking the monkey habit of not looking up on a regular basis.

Usually Spoon's girls are on the other side of the rafters. Or hanging by their feet. (Mostly that's just Christine.)

"In some places, and some times." Spoon says, contently, "This one sure as hell isn't living anymore."

"Hm. How many planets do yautja have access to?"

"This is Milliways." Spoon says, "If you know the right people you have access to all of them." He's killed on almost every world he's ever been to. "I couldn't count 'em all if I tried."

"Oh! Yes, that makes more sense now," says Bumblebee. "You seem to be a very effective hunter, then."

"I kill instead of get killed." Spoon agrees, "Keep forgetting that not everything has to be engaged hand-to-hand and killing shite with me teeth instead of me plasma cannon, but that's just me."

"Yeah." Spoon says, contently. "Mandibles aren't as good as fangs for ripping things open, anyway."

"You don't look as if your skull is designed for optimal fang usage," says Bumblebee. "Are your retractable, or do they fold back along the roof of the mouth?"

"Neither." Spoon says, "Whole skull changes shape. I'd show you, but it was a bad moon for me, and I'm not entirely comfortable that I could come back without da' here to help."

"Oh. All right."

Hey, he's had times when transformation really hurt. There was usually physical damage involved, but that doesn't mean that that has to be the case for transforming organics.

"How long have you been hunting?"

"Couple years, now." Spoon says, slowly, "Exact time depends on if you count from infection when I was just killing, or only the time after I became yautja."

"Unless I learned my human languages wrong," says Bumblebee, "'killing' and 'hunting' are two different verbs, even if 'killing' is the outcome of 'hunting'. Am I correct?"

[there_is_a_me]

"Yeah." Spoon says, with an uncomfortable shrug, "I hunt because I have to kill. I have to kill because I'm infected and addicted. Hunting very dangerous things keeps me from killing sentient ones."

"Ah," says Bumblebee. "I'm sorry, then. That must be hard."

He's had to fight for a long, long time, himself, but he's never had that kind of drive pushing him to it.

"Not really." Spoon says, wryly, "That's the problem, innit? It's easy to let loose, it's hard to keep it all confined. Wouldn't go back to being human, though. This is what I am, and I'm happy more often than not."
