And so to bed, thinks a tired Minerva McGonagall, deputy Headmistress of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, having just shepherded the last First Year to bed. Having lost the rest of the group heading to Gryffindor Tower for the first time, and unwisely taken the advice of a slightly-tipsy portrait, he’d been found by the Grey Lady ( Read more... )

Not only is it a bar, but it's a bar that apparently already has minors in it, given that there's one leaning over towards her, wide-eyed. This lady looks strange, and, in Milliways terms, he figures that probably means the world she's from is amazing.

"Hi!"

"I - oh, really!" This last directed more at her hair than anything else; a twitch of her wand sends the stray lock scurrying meekly back into place amongst its neatly-pinned brethren.

"Hello." It's not quite a smile, but it's not a million miles away. Still, Minerva McGonagall has had quite enough of small children for the present.

"I suspect I'm not in the school any more."

Where Hogwarts won't have a room leading to next...

"School? No-o. This is Milliways!"

Momiji gives a wide-armed, excited wave out at the Bar, indicating all of it in a sweeping motion.

"This is your first time? You'll like it! It's really neat!"

"Well." Briskly. "At least I won't have to subtract House points for being out of bed at this time of night..."

Beat.

"What in the name of Merlin's blue undergarments is that?"

Guess who's spotted the Observation Window.

"I-it's okay." Says a very small voice from behind a table nearby.

"This place sneaks up on people."

"I - what?"

Her head snaps around, looking for the speaker.

Wellington shrinks back, then smiles shyly.

"S-sorry, didn't mean to make you jump."

"I did not jump."

Minerva McGonagall does not jump. Minerva McGonagall demands an explanation for this bullshit. And pre-emptively disapproves of it.

"Aha." Wellington has been spotted, and is being inspected curiously. "Who are you?"

The young blond boy sitting by the Bar takes the lollipop out of his mouth and inclines his head to her solemnly.

"Welcome to Milliways."

"...Excuse me?"

Well, at least he's not talking with his mouth full, she notes absently.

"Milliways Bar", he repeats. "You seemed to be new - so, welcome."

"Unless Albus has been conspiring with the decorators again, I suspect that yes, I am new here."

She gives the boy a small bow of the head in greeting. "Thank you. My name is Minerva McGonagall. 'Professor' will do, I think."

"No grief...well, not unless you disapprove of alcohol," comes a soft male voice from a nearby table. From London, if the accent is to be believed.

From a London a few hundred years in her past, if the clothes (doublet and breeches, all dark and comfortably worn) are to be believe.

"I can honestly say that I have never in my life disapproved of alcohol."

She is, after all, Scottish.

"I can disapprove of what would happen if certain of my more troublesome students found this door, however."

She unbends enough to give him a sudden smile, even as she surveys the strange clothes (not as if she has room to judge, admittedly) and the stranger surroundings.

He gives her a wicked grin.

"Well, students would be finding alcohol all on their own, without any help from this. Welcome to Milliways, Mistress."

"That's as may be, but I'd prefer they not be given a head start. The Weasley twins are quite sufficient work, even when they're sober."

An intoxicated Fred and George does not even bear thinking about.

McGonagall tucks the stray strand of hair back into uniformity. "Milliways?"
