David fucks with Millitime and enters the bar again. He chooses a booth in the dark corner, and sits with his knees drawn up to his chest, eyes blank, staring into nothingness.

He is the broken shell of a man.

*Loki sees David and wanders over smiling, acting as if nothing has happened*

Hey.

David doesn't flinch.

David doesn't move.

He doesn't look at him.

"...hi..."

What's wrong with you?

Still staring ahead.

"Nothing..."

Nick who's mun needs to run to the library sees a figure sitting in the dark...and walks over to find...

"David? David, are you okay?"

He reaches out a hand to touch the other man and when finger meets shoulder, he almost freezes where he is.

"David...David, it's Nick. David?"

"Nick..."

He doesn't turn to face him.

"Hi, Nick."

His voice is quiet, soft and misty.

And he's rocking himself. Gently.

And Nick instantly envelops him in a hug. He's a cop. He's a homicide cop...but that doesn't mean he's never dealt with victims. He doesn't need anything but his training to recognize that David has been victimized by something or someone. So he just wraps his arms around David very carefully.

"David...David...are you all right? What...what do you need? Is there anything I can do, David? Anything at all? I could...I could get you some more of those cookies you like...if you like. I think I might have another bag in my pocket, okay? Would that...would that help?"

Shaking his head, tears run silently down David's cheeks, and he turns into Nick's hug, though he doesn't move himself to hug him back.

"Cookies would be nice," he whispers into Nick's arms, voice shaking, body wracked with silent sobs.

Eros at some point in Millitime notices the hunched man, and remembers him. No stranger to heartbreak, he approaches, carefully.

"David Talbot?"

David doesn't look up, doesn't smile.

"Hello."

His eyes are fixed on a spot on the table in front of him.

"What makes you happy, David Talbot?"

[notsoyoung]

David can think of only one thing at the moment, only one thing that makes him happy.

"Charlie..."

She knows blank eyes.

She knows what they mean.

David.

A gentle hand on his hair, and she leans on the table, facing him, and pulls him into a hug.

"Oh, sweetheart, what's happened to you?"

[notsoyoung]

"Nothing."

He's not a very good liar.

Especially not when he's shaking and there are tears on his cheeks, and he's hugging her back.

She slides into the booth next to him, and quietly pulls his head down to her shoulder, rocking him gently.

Don't lie, dearheart... just take your time.

He can't say it. Can't speak words. Can't admit to it, can't say he

"Pathetic..."

But isn't this what you like? The pain? All the biting and scratching. Bleeding and feeding. Isn't the pain what gets you off?!

hurt him...

The images flash in Kestrel's mind, pain almost a physical feeling.

*Loki now surrounded by people surveys the scene:

Kestrel and David are over in the corner watching wide eyed.
Raph is a few feet away holding his bleeding hand as Charlie charges at him.
Nick, rubbing his head and standing is off to his left with Alanna getting up as well just behind Nick.

This should be fun.*

Charlie charges low, meaning to tackle him, knock him to the ground. His face is entirely flushed--he's not seeing anything but Loki, not thinking anything but he hurt David.

David struggles out of Kestrel's grip and runs over as fast as he can, and he catches Charlie around the waist, pulling him, spinning him away.

"Stop!" he shouts, and then turns to all of them, wonder who'll listen to him. "STOP IT!"

When no one appears to be listening to him, he turns back to Charlie, tears on his face and in his eyes. "Don't. I don't want you to get hurt anymore."

Nick looks like he's about to go flying back at Loki...but instead takes a deep breath and steps much more calmly, perhaps, than anyone expected until he is in between Loki and the huddle of Charlie and David.

Remember what's important...

Fighting the angel is useless. It burns (he still burns, his skin crackling at this point...he'll need blood) and the angel is stronger for all of Nick's speed. But...this he can do. He will defend. He will defend with the very last of his blood, the last of his strength. No one will touch David, Charlie, or Kestrel. No one. Not even over his dead body.
