Winter is quickly coming to Smallville. Winter means a lot of things to many people. For Chloe Sullivan, it means an excuse to drink more coffee and coffee-related products than normal. No matter how crappy the Kansas winter got, she never complained about it, just for that reason ( Read more... )

"Hey, Sullivan. Long time no see." Knox is actually very glad to see the future of annoying investigative reporter. But his tone sounds merely interested. He's got a bowl of soup, his onw cup of coffee, and a coat to match hers dripping on the floor.

[occ: not around terribly long as Rosh Hashanah nears, but had to welcome Chloe back]

Chloe smirks, eying the coat with amusement. "Winter time in Gotham too, Knox? Gotta tell you, that's definitely another thing we have Gotham beat at."

"Winter? Nah, it's just November. Just wait till January gets rolls along. It's cold and snow every day for two months. Traffic's in knots, everyone's freezing. I love it." He hates it. But rivalries trump even that. "Metro can only get so lucky when Luthor's got his snow gun running."

"Luthor? Snow gun?" Chloe raises an eyebrow, giving Knox a look of pure doubt. "Riiight. I always knew that world of yours was screwed up."

If anyone knows better than to challenge Chloe Sullivan's assessment of caffeinated beverages, it's Clark. He grins, leaning against the bar counter beside her.

"Don't I owe you one of those? Or dinner, or something?"

"I think it was dinner," Chloe replies cheerfully. She can afford a latte. Full on Milliways dinner? Okay, so what if Riley covers most of those? She's totally getting a free one off Clark. "Yeah, it was totally dinner."

"Dinner it is," he nods firmly. "You just let me know when."

Then he eyes her suspiciously. "You know, you look different."

Chloe eyes him suspiciously right back. "Okay. Spill."

Someone is watching Chloe. Chloe might hypothetically assume this small, dark-skinned person to be female, because of the purple sundress (and nothing else), but it's actually difficult to tell. There are no other clearly female features, and this being Milliways, it might be a boy in a dress. The face is closer to a boy's face than a girl's.

And it's a bit like being watched by an animal. The stranger sits VERY still, peering with an unreadable expression.

As Chloe sips at her latte, she looks around the bar proper to scan for any familiar faces. While she doesn't necessarily see anyone that matches that description, she does notice that set of eyes staring at her.

So, she frowns, staring back.

The stranger's head tilts slightly to one side. Still that unreadable face, and a voice neither clearly male nor female -- "Hello."

"Anyone ever told you that it's rude to stare?"

That would clearly be Chloe's version of 'hello.'
