Having to work on top of getting ready for high school is annoying.

And it's doubly annoying when that work is an extremely delicate negotiation of land rights between trees in Central Park that was supposed to be settled months ago, and is being complicated by the sidewalks

Down the bar a little, Bev smiles at seeing a girl near her own age in the bar, and gives a little wave.

"Hey. Hard day?"

Nita smiles over her teacup at her. "You could say that, yeah."

Bev tends to get along better with adults or boys than girls her own age, but when Nita smiles back, she looks encouraged.

"School?" Encouraged enough to hazard a guess, anyway. "Oh--I'm Bev. Maine, 1963."

"Getting ready for it, yeah. And" -- she waves a hand -- "difficult personalities at work, on top of it."

Her smile firms a little. "I'm Nita. New York, 2006. Nice to meet you."

[kein_tannenbaum]

"Dai, Nita!" rustles a tree from close by.

He doesn't come in very often, but just noticed that he wasn't hired for Security. So he's not quite as cheerful as usual.

Still pretty cheerful, though!

"Filif!"

Nita beams.

"Dai, big guy! How're you?"

"I am doing well!" He brightens back at her. "Somewhat bored--did you know there were these mints that made people change gender? They weren't magical, but they caught Duo and I think he's your friend--and you?"

". . . Nope, missed that one. So, what, Duo got turned into a girl?"
