Internal emo is still emo.

But hey, here's a friendly distraction plunking itself down next to him.

"Hey."

He doesn't look over, but he smiles.

"Axel."

"Hephaestos." He's quiet for a moment, clearly thinking about something. "I'm going to be getting a heart," he says.

He smiled as he turned now.

"That's good. I've designed one before. Didn't go well."

There is a soft thud as a large Tupperware container is deposited on the grass nearby. "The blueberry harvest is well under way in our part of farm country," says Annie wells. "I hope you like pies."

He startles before looking up at Mrs. Wells. Then he smiles and pats the grass.

"Pies are better with company."

"I've found that myself," says Annie, sitting down. "Tarts are another thing altogether, but I'm fresh out of small pans, so the full size is all I could do. How've you been?"

He shrugs.

He's about all right. About usual. 'Dite's been out and about some. She seems to have forgotten about her idea of having a child which, while it stung some...

It was a familiar pain. Easy to handle.

"Well enough. And yourself?"

There were few things more distracting than bouncy, far-too-pink, eight-year-old girls.

Less still ones that were singing.

What she was singing was anyone's guess, as it seemed to be a mish-mash of a half-dozen songs.

She stopped when she realized he was there, having nearly cartwheeled into him, "Oh, hi, do you know who you are?" Seemed like a perfectly sensible greeting to her, all things considered.

He nods.

"Have for a while."

She grinned at that, "Okay, do you know who I am? Because I kind of forgot." A heave of a shrug then, full-body movement, "I guess it's happening to a lot of people."

He shakes his head.

"Unfortunately not," he admits. Then his brow furrows.

"Happening to a lot of people?"
