He's not consciously aware of the noise until it ceases. When it does, he looks around... and jumps when he sees the slender girl standing so close to him.
And there's a man in a gray suit passing by. "Evening, stranger." He looks again. "Or are you a stranger? There's something indefinably familiar about your face... are you another victim of Milliways LOL, by any chance?"
'Tis indeed, among other things to which we'll get presently. "Oh my. How'd you get... un-digitized, as it were? And now that I hear your voice, of course it's obvious what caught me about your face; I was recognizing the scars without knowing it. Come to think, I don't recall you mentioning how you picked those up."
"Short version: I tried to go to someone else's world, it injured me somehow, a Security staffer tried to heal me and ended up turning me human in the process. I've been like this for almost two weeks now."
He's not going to discuss the scars unless he absolutely has to.

Very much a vampire (too pale a kin, too bright her eyes, too glassy her fingernails), but rather not bored, really.
However, she does drift over to the fire place - from curiousity more then anything else.

Glances from him to the bricks and back again, and she wonders if she is missing something.

Even if he can't place the face, the voice should definitely be familiar.
