[OOM: The Price of Success.]

The door opens and a man walks in, fiddling with his cellphone until he realizes that he's not quite where he thought he was.  At first glance he'll look famliar, but on second glance, people who know him may notice something...different.  It's not just the longer hair, neatly combed down; not just the slightly rounder ( Read more... )

Angela skips over, kitten on shoulder, and gives Jack a kiss on the cheek. She hasn't noticed the youthfulness yet--most adults look about the same age to her, really.

"Hey, Grampa!" she says cheerfully.

"Well, there's my mom and dad, of course. Mr. Chappelle is here, and sometimes Aunt Michelle comes in. Uncle Tony used to come in..." She pauses for a moment. "And then there's you. But you're older and you know who I am, obviously. My aunt Chloe used to work with you, too, and she comes in..."

She shrugs. "I'm not entirely sure who you might not know yet."

"Whoa, wait. 'Uncle Tony'? You don't mean Tony Almeida, do you?" he says, with a 'you've got to be kidding me' expression.

"Um, yeah. He and Michelle are married and have two kids. They sort of live nearby. Sometimes I babysit for them."

And they come over often, because you can't be there. Or maybe you're dead.

"Michelle?" he asks, unable to think of any Michelles that he knew of. Well, other than Michelle Partington at CTU: Las Vegas, and she was probably about ten years Tony's senior. "And how do you know Tony? Is your father a friend of his?"

"My dad...he used to work with you. That's...how he met Mom." Angela bites her lip. She's uneasy with telling him all of this...but she's even more uneasy about lying to him. (Well, except about her boyfriend, but this is different.)

He's her grandfather.

"Oh, so he knows Tony from CTU." Of course he's not sure how this Chase guy would meet Kim, considering Jack didn't exactly take his work home with him.

"Yeah." She smiles. "You know...Mom's really good. She's a really good Mom--all my friends love her. I'm really lucky."

Hew can't help but smile a little at that. "I...I can't even imagine her grown up and having kids; much less a teenage daughter."

She smiles. "I guess not. I mean...wow, I can't even imagine Mom being my age."

"I guess it always is, for kids to imagine their parents being younger. Where are you from? What do your parents do?"

"We live in Valencia. Dad owns a Security consulting firm, and Mom writes books, mostly."

Jack grins, the silly English geek. "My daughter's an author? What kind of books does she write?"

"Lots of books on what you can do if bad things happen to you. Self-help. She was a counselor for a while, too."

"Does she come in the bar at all?" he asks, eagerly. He'd love to get the chance to see her; to see what she's turned into.

"Yeah, she does."

Angela doesn't bother to try explaining that the Kim that comes into the bar is not the same Kim who is Angela's mother, because...this is quite enough to be going on with.

"She's in and out a lot. I'm sure you'll get to see her."
