It has been a rather long day at Redmond. The social life is always abuzz and aflutter, and Phil is always right in the thick of it, but that's hardly unusual now.

Do you know what goes beautifully with distractions?

Babies.

"Hello, Phil. Come join us?"

"Amy!"

Oh, distractions are very lovely indeed. Distractions and...and babies?

"Good heavens, Amy, have you had the baby already?" says Phil with a huge smile, tossing her mathematics books onto a small table.

"And aren't you just utterly adorable."

That last to the baby. Not to Amy. Not that Amy isn't adorable too.

"It didn't feel like an already to me," Amy laughs.

Twenty-six hours of labor, in a pre-epidural society, will do that.

"Phil, this is my daughter, Susan."

"Amy, she's a darling! And Susan is a lovely name. Did you name her for Susan Pevensie?"

Phil met Susan at Amy's wedding and liked her quite a bit.

"May I hold her? I promise you I won't drop her."

"I should think you have plenty of distractions at Redmond, Phil," comes a very familiar laugh, from over by the fireplace. "What with all your classes and parties and the poor boys that follow you around like lovesick moths."

"Anne, honey, what else do you think I need a distraction from," says Phil with a wink.

The other girl gets a warm smile and Anne pulls at the throw she'd gathered over her lap, and moves over on the couch, patting the thankfully non-embroidered surface of the cushion next to her.

"I don't suppose Alec or Alonzo know anything about these most recent victims, do they?"

"Oh, of course they do," says Phil flopping gracelessly onto the couch, "I've written to both of them and told them all about my college fellows. It would be dishonest if I didn't. But I've told them I've not met a one who can compete. The dear boys."

It may be noted that the last sentence could be referring to either set of 'dear boys.' Or both.
