The door opens, showing a rather rough wooden portal that might better belong to a ship than a castle on the other side as the Rivan King pulls his hand away. He shifts the bag over his shoulder and turns around half way in the doorway ( Read more... )

Larwence is rather concerned about the large bag of ... well, he doesn't know what it is, but it's big.

And the wolf has him curious - he smiles, lighting a cigarette and turning on his stool.

He suddenly remembers the food and grabs it from the bar again before putting it on the table and starting to sit. Then he rolls his eyes and nods to Lawrence.

"Would you like anything? My treat. I'm doing well enough for two men right now."

"I believe I shall abstain for the moment - I am not terribly hungry. But the sentiment is appreciated."

A smile.

"As you like," he says with a nod automatically before sitting again. "Though you're welcome to sit with us if you like. We haven't been back here in some time."

The look he shares with his wife is strange; pained and tired and yet, with the knowledge that whatever had caused it was over.

"At least, not together anyway."

He leans down and scoops up Wolf in one hand before putting him next to him on the bench of the booth.

"And never with Wolf. It's his first time here."

Ce'Nedra is cutting up teeny tiny bits of fish and feeding them to Geran. She'll feed herself eventually.

"Wolf needs to meet Jason soon."

"Yes, he does."

And he runs a hand over Geran's hair.

Geran smiles at his father and kisses his mother's cheek.

"So does Geran, really, it's been too long for him to remember."

He nods.

"There are a lot of people who have to meet them both. And a few who'll be glad to see them again."

She scritches Wolf's ears and feeds him a piece of fish.

"None moreso than us."

She hugs Geran tightly and covers him with kisses, tickling a little to hear him laugh.

He nods to Wolf.

"Grandfather's going to give me trouble over that. The scritching. He's his own wolf."

But then he doesn't care because he's watching Ce'Nedra with Geran and absolutely melting.

"The old wolf can stuff it. He's my cub and I'll raise him as I see fit."

She drops a kiss onto Wolf's head and feeds him another piece of fish.

He rolls his eyes and nods.

"Yes, dear. But you get to tell him that."

She meets her husband's eyes with a good deal of her old fire.

"Don't think that I won't!"

He holds up a hand.

"I didn't think you wouldn't."

And the grammar of that sentence hurts somewhere.

"I just don't want to be the one who has to tell him."

She rolls her eyes.

"Men."

And then goes back to playing with and feeding her boys. It makes her inordinately happy.

He smiles and watches, occasionally reaching out a hand to touch his son or, goodness help him, scritch the wolf. And every so often, he leans over to kiss her cheek.

"You're a wonderful mother," he feels the need to tell her.
