"You know, I have a cousin who's probably your age," Jaina says softly from her booth. She picks up a honeywafer from her plate and dips it in her mug of caf.
Comfort, alas, cannot be promised as a certainty in Riza's case. Introduction, however, can. She hadn't realized that there were children who came to the bar, though perhaps she should have intuited it, and so eyes the boy sidelong before speaking. "Are you all right?"
"I am indeed." The woman, a soldier by her uniform, smiles as well, somewhat reserved. "You're very perceptive." Or she's very obvious in her unfamiliarity, which is equally possible to her mind.
She studies him with a critical eye, concern not quite masked. "You look nervous. Is something the matter?"

He had a difficult time making friends, but he's a genuinely friendly kid.
