There's a small celebration going on at the coffee table by the fireplace. It's Joshua Mayhew-Perunu's first birthday, and most of his immediate family is gathered around him

Here's a Jack, with a Georgia--who stares frankly at Joshua and Andrei with a clear expression of I thought I was the only baby in the world.

"I'd still like to discourage her from biting randomly. Or we could find some very tough teething rings."

Georgia merely looks innocent. Beaver baby in potentia? Not here!

Jack grins and nods. "And it'll be sooner than we'll expect, I'm sure."

Sunny would be a tinycute ball of fury if someone honed in on her gig.

"Of course."

"And soon after teeth comes crawling," Jack says, giving Georgia a "aren't you excited?" look.

Georgia bounces excitedly.

"And after that, walking." Gil is giving Jack a are we prepared for that? look.

Jack also bounces excitedly. "And then talking out loud."

Georgia, if she knew such an emotion, would look affronted. As she sees it, it's not her fault the words don't work yet.

"Soon I will hear you, just like Papa does. And you will be able to speak to me with more than just hugs." He snuggles her under his chin. "But the hugs will always be welcome, Georgie."

Then we must hug!

And she laughs.
