Perhaps the sobs made the sound harder to hear, or perhaps not; either way, the sound of hoofbeats eventually intruded upon Draco's consciousness. Jah-lila stopped some distance from the young human and looked at him curiously.

Draco was too focused on his pain and grief to notice the hoofbeats now.
It wasn't until a few minutes of quieter crying, that he noticed the company.
He turned around, and then relaxed a little. Just an unicorn. Something fairly familiar back home. He just looked at it, and rubbed his eyes with his gloved hands some.

True enough. At some point he might realize that the unicorn was the wrong colour compared to the ones he knew, but likely other things would come first.

"You have an air of grief about you," the unicorn observes, cocking her head to one side curiously. "What grief betides?"

Draco briefly stared with some surprise since unicorns in his world usually didn't talk. The wrong color part was barely an issue as much as that.

He then sarcastically replied, "Oh, well spotted there. And I'd rather not talk about it with some strange animal if it's all the same to you."

Yes, he's getting better, really. But still, hard to change everything at once, and some parts were just part of his nature.

Penelope can't get over how very much the outdoors of Milliways resembles the grounds at Hogwarts. She's outside now, amethyst winter robes and teal scarf-and-hat keeping her quite warm.

Out of nowhere, she hears someone crying.

Then she realizes that, in fact, it isn't out of nowhere, it's out of a very definite somewhere: Draco.

"Are you all right?"

Draco had noticed it as well, which gave small comfort to him. Familiar and safe.

Save for rude interruptions when one's trying to have some quiet time.

"Of course I'm fine, you silly twit." Draco scowled at her, quickly rubbing his eyes to get rid of the tears. "Enjoying the lovely weather, now leave me alone."

Penelope hasn't been this insulted in ... well, at least a month.

"Silly twit?" she repeats, flabbergasted. "What the hell is wrong with y--"

She cuts herself off. He's been crying ...

He's Draco Malfoy, you think he's still not going to snark and insult? Hahahahaha... yeah right.
"Nothing's wrong with me. Now toddle off." he angrily replied, even as he was fighting the urge to cry again.

Inside the bar, the 'no business' rule applies. (Well, most of the time, barring the exceptional circumstances that tend to crop up in a place like Milliways.)

Outside the bar, there is no such prohibition against business.

Draco Malfoy is now the Light's business.

And that would explain why Merriman is standing -- all right, looming over him. Saying nothing, but with a look on his face that Draco might have seen somewhere before.

All those years in school, a student tended to get instinctive about when one had a professor looming over one's head.

Like now.

Draco broke off crying abruptly, and hastily wiped his eyes. He sat up a bit straighter, even though there was definitely a worried and guilty expression on his face. And yes, he knew THAT look very well.

Thank Merlin no pointer was in sight.
At least he stopped himself from whimpering.

"Sir." He replied, his voice wavering some.

'Mr Malfoy.'

A voice like the tolling of a distant bell.

'You seem to be quite...flexible, where your loyalties are concerned.'

"I made a mistake before." He quietly replied honestly. "And I wanted out."

He hunched down some, and hugged himself, "Even though it was already too late for him."
