My man is leaving for Iraq sometime soon, and I've put in a time-off request at my work and they turned it down! (Don't worry, they don't know the date, cause even I don't! I just have a time line thing of when he would be leaving

How did you ask for time off if you don't have a date? "I need a week off next month, but I'm not telling you which week?" No big surprise they'd turn that down. And to the best of my knowledge, no, there's no law.

You didn't say what your relationship is with your man - but I'd have to guess if there WAS a law, it would only apply to married couples.

Snarky much? I told them the week long time zone, and said I need that time off. No specific date, just week.

Anyways, I've found out that there isn't one that covers me as a fiance, but there is indeed one for spouses.

If you are married then yes, there is a clause in the FMLA laws stating that you have a right to take time off for deployment and homecoming.

I agree with the other ladies. If you aren't married, they are not obligated by law to give you time off. If you are married, this link may show you the provisions for military family leave:

I don't know about any federal laws, but in Washington State a new law recently passed allowing state employees 21 days of unpaid leave a year to spend with deploying/deployed spouses.

This is good to know. I didn't know there was any kind of law like this out there. I'm both married and we will be moving to Ft. Lewis, WA soon. And since my hubby just reenlisted so I'm sure there is a possibility he could get deployed again. Do you know if the specific law for WA applies to civilians working on base through the Army? Is that consider a state job? Thanx for any additional info.

I would imagine working on base would be a federal job, and then I think there are other protections, but I'm no expert!

FMLA guarantees you 12 weeks of leave without losing your job. Just so you know :) Federal law trumps state law any day!
