Just a question

My man is leaving for Iraq sometime soon, and I've put in a time-off request at my work and they turned it down! (Don't worry, they don't know the date, cause even I don't! I just have a time line thing of when he would be leaving.)

But, a girlfriend of mine says that there is some sort of law that protects me and gives me, as she put it, the right to take that time off.

Is this true? If so, what is it called?

Because from day one of my job, (which wasn't too terribly long ago...) I told them that if the time ever came, I would need a week off for his deployment, so that I could put myself back together again. And they agreed. And now they are going back on what they said, which is a slap in the face to me.

I'm planning on talking to my boss again, and if she stands her ground on this, then I'm gonna quit, and hopefully be able to throw this into her lap. (The possible law.)

So, any help on if there is such a thing would rock.
