So, Jeff and Annie are up against TVD's Damon and Elena.
Can I get a, "Yikes!"
TVD's fanbase does not play around. TVD has three couples still in the tournament, and it does not look like any vote splitting is going on
( Read more... )
for real these tvd fans have no chill, how about we all vote a bunch before the poll ends. cause they keep catching up, as long as we don't fall to far behind, we can try and get higher on wed.
I didn't want to put this in the main body of the message, because then it would sound like I'm being a Debbie Downer, but...
Seriously. TVD fandom has freeping the polls down to a science, man. This is fandom that consistently manages to get its pairings winning whatever it is they set their sights on. They not only have no chill, they have no chill with no sleep, I swear.
Yeah, we beat the shippers of this particular pair back in 2011, but that was four years ago when Community fandom was arguably at its largest and most fervent.
Only way we're going to win this round is if even the non-shippers decide that any publicity is good publicity and decide to throw their votes in.
Most of them are young and have a lot of time as well. On top of that ,there is a lot of them, so keeping up till Wed. seems impossible cause I'm giving it my all right now. I mean that not even adding the point that delena is their most popular ship. Yeah, back in 2011 community had more vocal fans and more casual fans as well. Tvd has just gained viewers as time has gone on. Even in 2011 j/a won by voting multiple times. GUh why did we have to get stuck with this ship so early on, I'm pretty sure we could've easily made it to second place if this hadn't happened. Sorry to be so negative but I'm a little upset cause it would have been nice to win the poll again , perhaps the year j/a finally happened. But hey, the trailer comes out tomorrow at least :)
I'm with you on the nature of TVD fandom. I always got the impression that the majority were fairly young-ish and have grown up watching the show over the past six or so years. I'd guess most of them are still students in late high school or early college.
I don't know much about the show itself, but I figured Delena is one of the more popular ships in the fandom based on the level of wank around it. Plus, TVD fandom is huuuuuge. So the minute I saw who we were up against I kind of threw my hands up in the air.
I figure those crazy kids are going to be voting hardcore all night tonight and all Tuesday night, so I'm guessing the overnight is where they'll put in their biggest gains.
Frankly, I'll count it as a victory if Jeff and Annie close out this round at more than 46% of the votes.
Yikes. This is a tough one. On a personal level, Jeff/Annie and Damon/Elena are my biggest ships on there (I mean, I mod this comm & the D/E one), but I'm still gonna vote for J/A. D/E win enough of stuff like this.
One thing that might be in our favor is that I'm sure the people who ship Damon and Elena with other people are voting against them and they're pretty hardcore themselves.
Honestly, most of the time I don't think most people even bother to vote against their NOTP in these things, so I never really believed that it was much of a factor.
Of course, we also have the 2012 E! Couple's Tournament where the Glee and Supernatural fandoms literally joined forces to knock Jeff/Annie out of the running in the final four round, so I'm not saying it never happens.
Yeah, most of the time I would agree. For example, I don't think the anti-J/A people in the Community fandom would bother voting against us.
The TVD fandom, however, can be OTT. And there are so many ships and most of them has, uh, intense fans (even if certain pairings are bigger than others). Shippers are often voting against each other in polls or Twitter or whatever, doing whatever they can to stop their NOTP, and they don't even try to hide it. That said, D/E are probably the most popular ship in the fandom, so it takes a lot to bring them down. But I still want J/A to win.
J/A were ranked something like 12 after round 1. They were ranked much higher than Damon and Elena, though they had a much easier first round matchup and didn't need the votes.
Also, I recommend using Chrome for voting if you have it. If not that, then IE. Either of those will bring you back to the spot where you last were when you reload the page. Unlike Firefox where you will have to scroll down again. Chrome seems to reload slightly faster, and I haven't been getting that ad page nearly as often.
One last tip, by using multiple tabs you're basically limited only by how fast you can click and type. My personal best is 48 votes in a 5 minute period. Going to try to top 50 lol.

In all seriousness, though, fandom dynamics always interest me, even if I'm not involved in the fandoms. Sometimes I feel like an amateur sociologist.

Keep it up everyone! And hopefully we can last it out during the night!
(Btw, alerting the JA redditors about the poll has really helped!!)
