Damn. I have nothing to add to that but it is an incredibly interesting and wonderful analysis that I'd never noticed before!

Yeah this is pretty amazing. For not being an 'in-depth analysis'...this thing is pretty depth-y. I never really noticed this before and I'd be curious to find out if it was at all intentional on the part of the writers or not..... I'd guess not, but you can't always tell with this show.....

You should all definitely watch Enver Gjokaj in Joss Whedon's Dollhouse! I was obsessed with that show when it was on and he's great in it ( ... )

Competitive Wine Tasting isn't one of my favorites, but I don't find it as bad as oneofthemuses does. The A plot doesn't do much for me, but I like the Troy/Britta B plot. I like their interactions and that Troy has such a crush on Britta that he would make something like that up. It actually reminds me a lot of Annie. They crush on people the same kind of childish way. And Donald's acting is forever the best. "My emotions!" Man, I miss Troy. (But I love Childish Gambino so I'm torn ( ... )

Dollhouse is on my to-watch list but so is everything... I've basically stopped watching everything but Community at the moment!

As for Chang, I've wavered on his character a lot. I really liked him in S1 and for much of S2 and I didn't mind pieces of his arc in S3 but they took him to such an extreme (and gave him a lot of screentime going there) that I thought was overkill. When carefully and sparingly deployed, Chang is a joy for me. When allowed to run amok and used as the main villain (so to speak), he's too much. I didn't enjoy the Changnesia plot (like, pretty much at all) but I thought he was relatively well-used again in S5. He does best, for me, when he's outrageous but mostly sane. The show is wacky enough at times without creating utterly unbelievable and ridiculous character arcs.

Jeff has abandonment issues, among others, so I doubt he'd be ready to "go all in" with a sexual partner. That doesn't mean he doesn't have one night stands, we know that his phone is full of ladies he's boned but doesn't know the ( ... )

My opinion on Jeff's rude behavior in Competitive Wine indirrr01 September 12 2014, 09:06:49 UTC
First off:
Critical Film Studios - I just noticed this when I was watching, Pierce got his Gimp costume from Jeff. Pierce never saw the movie and only one person from the group would actually be cruel enough to give him that costume. What makes it even funnier is that nobody from the group protested about Pierce wearing it.
Jeff is strangely so easy to peer pressure, everyone has at least pressured Jeff to do something for them at least once. I know it's caused by his childhood but man does he get manipulated a lot that I wonder how he survive as a lawyer for so long.

Competitive Wine Tasting - This is one of my favorite Pierce episodes because he was actually in a form of romantic relationship and we don't see that often with him. I actually thinks that this episode really shows off Jeff's ego like in "Contemporary Impressionist". I think I can explain why Jeff was in complete douchebag mode this entire episode. We know that Jeff was having an affair with Britta and it was cruelly affecting their attitudes this whole year. What I ( ... )

Huh. I always assumed that the gimp costume was something that Pierce already owned. And later in Paranormal Parentage when we see his sex dungeon with the swing and all...I just figured the costume was there, too. I may have to rewatch both of those episodes again.

I think Pierce owns one already, I'm implying that Jeff sugguested to him to wear it for the party. That's a fic idea right there. Still as Pierce would say to Jeff, "This is pretty gay, Winger".

"Custody Law" - Jeff and Annie standing with each other at the shower is one of those moments when it's like, how much did their cuteness together come from the acting, direction, and editing that wasn't in the script? Their conversation must have been written, but was their close proximity also? However it came about, it doesn't seem unintentional, and I definitely agree with everyone who says they seem so married at that moment.

Jeff and Shirley - and this whole episode really - are a little intense. But it's got so many hilarious moments ("I'm tired of confiscating saws," "Ugh! Girls are so un-desensitized") that I generally love it.

"Critical Film Studies" - One of my top 5 Community episodes ever. The My Dinner With Andre homage totally floored me. Abed's Andre Gregory impression (or Danny Pudi's performance of Abed's impression) is uncanny.
This episode may be the acting high point for both Danny Pudi and Joel McHale. Here we get the fullest sense of Jeff's insecurity.

"Wine Tasting" - One of my bottom 5 Community ( ... )

Erm, yeah, I was pretty harsh on it, wasn't I? I can't help it, though. I work in a helping profession so I tend to work with people who have experienced trauma (whether violence, or substance use, or whatever) and my educational background involved a lot of social and academic discourse on racism, sexism, etc. I don't think I've ever willingly rewatched Competitive Wine Tasting and in paying attention to it in order to write down my thoughts/analysis on it, I ended up realising how much I actively dislike it. And it's definitely a consequence of my education and work because the first time I saw it, I didn't like it, but I didn't hate it either.

What exactly was Jeff implying by saying that "Irony-Free Annie" is not what people call her? Most interpretations seem to think it's something sexual, but I never really got that sense. The only conclusion I've drawn from it is that Annie just doesn't know what people are saying about her.I never got the sense that it was something sexual either. I always assumed it was something ( ... )

A pretty logical speculation would be something like "Uptight Annie" or "High Strung Annie"
