Thanks, Louise! I got wolf-whistled! I dyed a lot of the pieces. Our bandanas, my sash, and trousers were al dyed. I'm using these wonderful Procion dyes, and the colours are just to die for.
There's a great company out in California called Dharma Trading, they've been there since the 60s. The bandanas David and I are wearing, as well as my sash (the sash is the same thing that David has on his head!) are from Dharma...they're hand-woven cotton scarves from Java, and they're great...perfect for pirate stuff. Check out the website, they have rayon dresses, silk scarves, etc..even fabric. And the dyes are, well, to dye for!
Aye, matey, methinks one must be a-doin' something right when both the wenches AND the blokes are eyeballing ye!
Well, we certainly stood out and surprisingly, when most people at the faires do pirate drag, they dont go too colourful, which I think defeats the whole rationale behind the look. Pirates were, in a way, like the gangsta rappers of their day...they liked to show off their ill-gained "bling", so that was the mindset I took when I put these outfits together.
How are you, my friend? Big hugs back across the ocean!
