Since getting off of Facebook, I have been getting emails from them telling me that so and so just posted such and such and to come look at it. I have never gotten this type of email before. But yeah, when you really think about it, it's really quite remarkable as far as business practices go, isn't it? Of course every business wants customers (or products, in Facebook's case) to come back, but they usually are a little more subtle and a little less manipulative about it. The kind of things that Facebook does (not that it's only Facebook though) reminds me more of a drug dealer than anything or anyone else.

Depending on your email client you could also set specific rules to ignore messages mentioning posts or groups or events, etc. but still allow "maybe your account was hijacked" posts to go through.
Related to this, I am a little irritated at the business world in general going down the path of using guilt trips as a method for getting repeat business. The place I had my car serviced once sent out a sad puppy postcard asking where I went. The bird store sent one saying "we miss our flock buddy" or something like that. Like okay guys, it's cute, but come on.
