Pick a paragraph (or any passage less than 500 words) from any fanfic I've written, and comment to this post with that selection. I will then give you a DVD commentary on that snippet: what I was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what's going on in the character's heads, why I

Well, the idea behind Just Like Old Times is, and (if I end up continuing it someday) will always be, that Donna never remembers him. I'll be honest, it's a complete rip-off of 50 First Dates, except that Donna's memory doesn't reset every morning. Everything from the eve of her wedding to Lance to the day she woke up when the Doctor brought her home is gone. Except she has these dreams, this dream of the love of her life, and she wakes up every morning missing him, but she can't really miss him because she doesn't know him. That was the idea I wanted to play with ( ... )

Tess: I can't choose, so you get two. Either 'Alien Voices' -
The Doctor stares at her uncomfortably, chewing the inside of his lip. After a moment, and not without a resigned sigh, he leans against the console, pulls off his glasses. He keeps his eyes on the floor for a long time, as Donna waits patiently.
He starts soft at first, so quiet she can hardly hear him. He never looks up, only fiddles with his glasses anxiously as the words pour out of him, his little Gallifreyan lilt making up the melody almost on its own. It's beautiful, far more beautiful than she would've expected, and it stuns her momentarily.
She doesn't understand the lyrics, not all of them. She can only pick out the few words that he's taught her, words like fire and sun and home, their breathy consonants and quiet vowels seeming to disappear into the air as the Doctor sings them. But somehow she can comprehend the ballad's meaning just the same.
Or 'To the Air and Dark' -

Alien Voices: that's lovely. And i do like your reasonong, especially integrating that into a culture where the populace are supreme in technology and wisdom to just about every other race in the cosmos. It's like the only way they can express themselves is by song.
To the Air and Dark: I will never get tired of telling you this is my favourite of your fics. Ever. I adore the idea for the title, and i need to ask:
There's also a running gag in that bit - elaborate? xD

The one thing Dead Giveaway always reminds me of is my OCD need to think outside the box when it comes to prompts. Whenever I get a prompt I always let the most obvious thing come to mind, and then don't do that. I try shift perception and perspective about a bit so that the idea is an attempt, at least, at originality. This one was no different, the prompt was lipstick and I came back with, "Wilf!" xD ( ... )

Hee! :D That is totally the reason why I like this so much. We don't get to see *anything*, yet it's really kind of sexy because of what's implied. Very cleverly done, missy! Thanks for the commentary!

The idea for What I Want For You is based a bit on the heroines of Japanese shojo manga. It often happens that the lead girl has a crush on the lead guy. Only sadly, lead guy is usually in love with someone else, and views the lead girl as just friends/like siblings. The idea then being the girl is so noble and pure that she takes it upon herself to help her crush out and win the other girl he loves, because if her beloved is happy, she can be happy ( ... )

Anyway, thank you for this. I can certainly understand your reasoning, although without the manga arc, but it is something I've often considered and also believe to be canon.
And I adore the thought of the TARDIS being upset for him...
