Oh hell. >B

Ganked from katherine_b shamelessly.

Pick a paragraph (or any passage less than 500 words) from any fanfic I've written, and comment to this post with that selection. I will then give you a DVD commentary on that snippet: what I was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what's going on in the character's heads, why I ( Read more... )

You knew when you gave them to me I was gonna do both, right? Wrapped around my finger, remember? ;P

As far as Alien Voices goes, this has Blackpool written all over it. xD (I can has more singing!Dave kplsthnks?)

No, but srsly, I love a guy who will sing. It's embarrassing (to me, anyway) to sing in front of people, whether you're male or female, because music is every bit of our innermost feelings condensed into the only form they can truly be understood for their full depth. People can sing things that sound incredibly Narmy when spoken, and it sounds beautiful. That's really what I was going for, the Doctor being as honest as he could be without actually writing what he felt. (Because TBH I have trouble writing confession scenes, I always feel like mine are super cheesy.)

And then of course there's the whole Gallifreyan culture thing, which I also love to play with. It never gets old. (And I have ideas, I swear. I'm just saving them for SLD...) And I think it's funny that the aspect of Donna's character, her understanding fully that he's a flippin alien, opens up the doors for curious questions that are probably could almost be offensive if someone else were asking them. xB

And the bit from To the Air and the Dark is just pure babbling Doctor. Aside from the fact that I don't write it as often as I canonically should, he's been holding it all in since they left Midnight, only giving short small answers or noncommital grunts; I really feel that there's no way he would even have the emotional strength to talk after what happened to him, and it's sort of his way of forcing himself back to feeling normal again. Alone, where he knows he's safe.

That's what the title refers to, the Doctor feeling safe. The line to the air is the setup, showing him being unguarded and vulnerable while he's alone, talking to the air; and then though I never write the line to the dark the entire final scene takes place in the dark, where even though he isn't alone, Donna can't see him, and therefore can't see him being vulnerable.

There's also a running gag in that bit but I've rewritten and revised so many of my stories SO many times that I can't remember ever actually posting a story that had the gag in it! ^^; So technically it's not running. It is the stalled car of running gags. xD

Aww, but i love you. Besides, all the cool kids are wrapped around my little fingers. *snerk*

Alien Voices: that's lovely. And i do like your reasonong, especially integrating that into a culture where the populace are supreme in technology and wisdom to just about every other race in the cosmos. It's like the only way they can express themselves is by song.

To the Air and Dark: I will never get tired of telling you this is my favourite of your fics. Ever. I adore the idea for the title, and i need to ask:

There's also a running gag in that bit - elaborate? xD
