Fascinating what counts for magic in some cultures.

Yeah, that probably is all the magic there is in that world. I find it more depressing that people got killed en masse over that.

Magic and spirit practice certainly can be one and the same. It's certainly the case in my world for some forms of it.

Intertwining the two is one thing. Claiming one is the other, however, is another story entirely.

I'm afraid I lack mage training, so I may be misunderstanding.

I will to try to explain what I mean. What I do, what I am capable of is because of my belief, my faith. I believe the Light will assist me, and it empowers me, as it does any other paladin or priest. Prayers or blessings is part of what I can do.

Shamans speak and make requests to the spirits and elements for their assistance and more often than not, are answered and empowered by them as well.
