I spent a good chunk of the day troubleshooting my laptop so that it will talk to some USB devices. I record interviews on a digital recorder, but for some reason my new (used) laptop won't talk to it, so I have to fire up my old laptop, copy the audio files onto that, and then transfer that over to my new laptop with another flash drive. My article on body modification in BC was posted on Vancouver.OpenFile.ca yesterday. I think I can convert this into a bigger story.

My article on one of the weirder memories of my childhood is up on The Tyee. You can keep your Rankin/Bass specials, even your Star Wars Holiday Special, nothing beats Peace on Earth for mixing the sentimental with the apocalyptic.

My first piece of journalism in a long time went live on the Tyee, on Vancouver city government's open data policy. It feels good to have it done, and I'd like to get back in the groove again, though there isn't a lot of money for freelancers these days.
