Random weekend poll

OK one of the nitpicky things that bugs me about the aforementioned Troubleshooters books is that birth control pills seem to not exist in that world. Condoms, yes, but many of the books have situations where a condom either isn't used or fails, and the inevitable result is freaking out about pregnancy (or actual pregnancy). Never does the heroine ( Read more... )

And yeah, that "medical conditions" question should've been a ticky box, not radio buttons. Whoops.

That's why I didn't choose one - the answer for me would be endometriosis, PCOS, migraines, irregular periods/excessive bleeding, severe cramps and other! I'm a lesbian, so I've never used it for contraception.

Being a dispensary tech in a small town pharmacy, I know far more than 20 women on HBC!

I took them for 2-1/2 years, back when I first started having sex in the late '70s.

I learned enough about side effects that I stopped and switched to another method, and within 90 days, my acne cleared up, I lost 10 lbs without trying, and orgasms got way better.

Admittedly, medical science has made enormous advances since then... but I'd still choose a barrier method (or two) over pills or implant if it were still an issue for me. (I got my tubes snipped at 39.)

To be fair, I know a lot of women who use depo and nuvaring, or have had their tubes tied.

*nods* None of which are mentioned in the books either. There are a lot of options out there besides the pill but they don't come up in the stories, and it's just... odd.

Yeah, I wasn't sure how to answer the "how many women" question either. Most of the women I'm close enough with to have that sort of confidence either have had their tubes tied or had a hysterectomy, their husbands have had vasectomies, or they're proactively doing the family thing. Or they're young ladies in my church who aren't sexually active. In fact, off the top of my head I can only think of one person I know for sure is using the pill, but I'm sure there must be more so I tentatively put 5-10.

EDIT: I thought it might be relevant to add that the hysterectomy was for reasons other than birth control. That would be a rather radically extreme measure, wouldn't it?

The results are visible, but you can't see who answered what, so the privacy is still protected. It's interesting to see how the poll is going.

I didn't check have you ever used the pill because I answered yes on currently using them. Also, the number of women I know who use something other than a barrier method is more than five. I just don't know many on the pill(that I know of).
