willpower is for other people

So much for "I'm not signing up for any more fests for a while!"

I just signed up for Remix-Redux 8. I've done it three times before, so it's not like I'm new to it. :-P I still only qualify for HP. One day I'll write more in other fandoms. (Which reminds me that I really need to finish Nessa's REALLY LATE Loveless birthday fic, which is really ( Read more... )

I'm happy with it, which I suppose is what matters in the end, but there's still that thing where when you write for someone else, you want them to at least acknowledge it.

Last year I wrote for two fests in which I received no acknowledgment and the users are still active on eljay and neither dropped out of the respective fests. Funnily enough, one fest corresponded to the time I was the co-mod at my own fanfic community and we made it a point to read and comment on every participant's story because it seemed like the right thing to do and these weren't stories written for me or my co-mod. Hope your recipient comes through with at least a personal thank you because it does suck.

I know. Granted, for me, I don't really care what I get in a fest as long as it avoids the worst of my squicks. Still, I've been very lucky and received a lot of truly lovely fic and art. Only once did the fic I received bear very little resemblance to the prompt - years ago, not recently - but it was obvious the author made an effort.

It's an annoyance. Like a mosquito bite, you know? Ah well. I'll live. :-P

Like a mosquito bite, you know?

We made it a point of saying for our exchange!fest that if you're a recipient who didn't acknowledge their fic, you wouldn't get to play again. We figured we could be douches idiots as the mods; we could take it because fests really aren't about us.

but it was obvious the author made an effort.

There is added scope to gift!fics since the writer/artists are making the effort for someone else, regardless if the effort would equal one's typical exertion, anyway.

ETA: Wow, I was someone else there for a minute, sorry for the deleted message, lol.

Yeah, we didn't make that rule with springsmut, but I constantly nudge people about it, and I don't think people who didn't comment bothered to sign up the next year. Though knowing me, I'd probably say something to them about it either way if they did sign up again.

:-P

Will the next one be house-elf

Honestly, I think it might be. Look at what you've done!

But no underage house-elves allowed!

No, no, don't delete your signup! Remix/Redux is like one of the highlights of the fannish year! :-)

How difficult is common courtesy these days, for a recipient to acknowledge a gift-fic? And is it me, or does this seem to happen more and more lately?

There absolutely must be a Bang a Puff fest! Or a Fitch-fest! Minor characters need love too.

I love the remix fics I've written, and I had fabulous authors with a lot of stories to choose from. I won't delete it. (I don't think. :-P)

*shrug* I don't know. *I* always comment on fest fics/art for me, but that's me. I think it does. Maybe people forget because they've moved on to other fests/projects. But that brings up a peeve of mine - particularly from a mod perspective - which is, if you're only in a fest to write or receive, and you're not interested in the fest itself and other people's contributions (meaning, you participate in a fest and don't read/view anything else in the fest except your own gift, why bother participating in a fest at all? Just ask for prompts from your flist. *shrug* (Mind, this doesn't mean "read and comment on everything!" A few things, when you can find the time. But that's another rant and I've voiced it before. :-P)

Oh god - a Filch fest. I wonder if they'd disappoint Filch/Mrs Norris shippers and ban bestiality.

You're more forgiving than I am. I cannot see how people can forget they participated in a fest, esp. a gift exchange. Let alone forget that they received a gift. Surely if people don't like what they received they could still find something nice to say about it, even if it is just "Thank you, I appreciate the effort you put into my gift." *shrug*

Filch. I knew that, honest. *facepalm*

I've seen people sign up for so many fests - some at the same time, some consecutively - where they write one, hand it in, and move on to the next, and hardly come up for air. I can't do that personally. I love to write, but I'm not one of those people who can write every day, nor do I feel compelled to do so. In fact, many days I feel very anti-writing. :-P But then something will hit me (like a deadline approaching! Hee!) and I can't stop ( ... )

Did you guy do the first big bang? I didn't know that. I can certainly undersand your frustration, then. When I stop to think about it (which isn't often these days), it still bugs the piss out of me how many fests ran with the Smutmas model. So many, in fact, that it put Smutmas out of business.

P.S. Sorry those two recips were so rude to you. That sucks.

Not the first BB - that was Harry/Draco, and other fandoms have had them. (SPN and J2 (Jensen/Jared RPF) and a few others.) I think ours was the first character-centric one, rather than ship-centric, though ( ... )

That's too bad they haven't acknowledged you yet. Hope they do. Mine seemed to like theirs. I can't wait for the reveal and see who my mystery auther is!

There's still plenty of time, even after reveals, but said person has posted/commented elsewhere since the fic was posted, so I'm just presuming they either didn't read it, or they did and didn't care for it. It happens.

Same here! I got a really adorable James/Teddy fic (next gen OTP!) and there was sex on the beach! I do appreciate drama and angst/flangst, but I'm an unabashed sucker for happy, fluffy fic and happy endings, and I wouldn't care if everyone else hated that genre. It makes me happy. :-P
