The little cafe down the street from our new place has a sign up that says:

There
ain't
no
such
thing
as
a
free
lunch.
I almost burst out laughing when I saw that. It is one of the most beloved sayings of of one of my favorite authors, Robert Heinlein. He even went so far as to abbreviate it as TANSTAAFL ( Read more... )

i wasnt aware that was a saying of r.a.h. TANSTAAFL is the first thing i learned in economics. and incidentally, the one thing i remember

Yes, TANSTAAFL definitely applies to economics. *LOL* Heinlein talks about that in some of his books.

It also works as a concise rephrasing of the Laws of Thermodynamics, and thus applies to science and engineering... and the world in general.
