This afternoon, Ed and I went to the Lehigh County Courthouse to apply for a marriage license. We had to go to Room 123.5. (I wonder why the marriage licensing is part of the Orphans' Court.)
No, you still have to have some manner of ceremony ( someone still has to actually marry you, whether it be a member of the clergy, a judge, etc.). In Pennsylvania there's a three day waiting period, so the marriage license isn't even good until Thursday. And there's the logistical difference between a marriage license - which says you're allowed to get married - and a certificate - which says you've actually gotten married. The license expires in 60 days, so whomever marries you has that amount of time to file the paperwork saying that it's a done deed. (We're getting married on Saturday, at which point the priest asks us if We Do, and signs the paper, at which point we're married
( ... )
It is rather confusing; I think the "license" aspect almost refers to the process of applying, whereas the "certificate" shows you had the actual follow-through.

Apologies for jumping the gun... although I assume you want this to hurry up and get there already too.
