The movie that we watched on Friday was very close to home for me as my pop died in that way this time last year, it was like watching it all over again and it was very hard to watch.
The movie itself was brilliant, and I think that Emma Thompson did an absolutely brilliant job at portraying the character of Vivian. It was disturbing in some scenes and I can see why and how it kind of strikes a chord with people because of the intensity of it and the reality as well.
I know that it was hard for me to watch, it made me think of my pop and it made me sad but I didn’t cry and I don’t know why but I didn’t that seems a bit odd to me, and I am still trying to work out why, but the whole thing for me was the reality of it.
The character of Vivian used the Donne poem and it helped me to understand it better because of how she used it in the movie. When you read a poem like that and you have never read something like that before it’s very hard to come to terms with it and understand it, although the tutorial helped the movie portrayed the importance as to why it is written in that way and in the importance of grammar and punctuation. I don’t think that we realise that it’s that important until it is displayed in a certain context for us, in the movie it helped me to understand the use of commas and colons and how important it is that we put them into the right spot and use them when we read poetry.
The movie is an absolute masterpiece in my eyes, it was fantastic and I would watch it again, who knows I might even cry this time! The whole reality of it struck me and I think that’s what made it what it is… a true masterpiece.
