I've been back from North Carolina for a few days now and still pretty bogged down with work, so I'm probably not going to get around to all of the posts I missed while I was away, which makes me sad because it looks like I missed a lot. Judging from the quick skim I've been able to do I've seen posts about death, pregnancy, weddings, break-ups

even though i live in texas, i've been lucky to not hear people walking around spouting off the "N" word. i think the closest i came to racism in my family was my father telling me in high school that i couldn't go to a movie with a black, male friend because of what people might think. i was shocked.
the dow was up something like 900 points yesterday!

I wish I had more money laying around that I could throw at the stock market. If ever there was a time to buy it's now, when everything's "cheap". Oh well.

haha.
one of my brothers is racist. he even uses racism as an excuse to get out of jury duty. i've learned to block his banter out over the years, but i fear for my niece. luckily, at 7, she's pretty good at thinking for herself.
said bro is voting obama because he's sick of republicans in the white house. guess that's a step in the right direction.

Obama! One of his reasons (his only non-political one, actually) - "I don't want a President who's older than me."
My dad and John McCain are the same age.

... yeah, peeps don't have homes to buy so hence no need for furniture. I'd give it a little bit of time, though. There was a slight spike in home purchases in September. Not much, but in times like these extremely encouraging.
I'm not so sure what or how to feel about our economy hitting bottom. Seems scary actually... what if we just fall right through the floor?!!! Anyways, you're probably hearing the word "depression" thrown around a lot these days maybe because of the GREAT DEPRESSION which most people would say started by The Crash of 1929. October 29, 1929! Can anyone say "Un-Happy Anniversary"???

At this rate, I don't think I'd ever be able to buy a house in LA.

Anyway, I'm not surprised to hear that your place was a little Utah, 'cause you're not too far from Glendora, which has always had a big Mormon population. Sucks to hear about your apartment managers, though. I was completely ignorant about the Mormon church mandating a 'yes' vote on Prop 8 as a 'tithe' until this weekend. That's fucking nuts, and to my recollection, grounds for tax exemption removal?
Also, not to be judgemental, but that sucks (and is pretty un-Christian) that your apartment managers aren't extending neighborly grace to you. You mean they haven't invited you two for dinner and Mormonopoly?!

There's actually a pretty nice LDS church in Covina, so there's that too. I'd heard about the Church mandating a "yes" vote and thought that was pretty fucked, but whatever. There's a little irony there that the Mormon church is all about the sanctity of marriage, when Brigham Young had like 55 wives.
I'm sure the apartment managers are perfectly nice people. They're probably not much older than us, either. They moved in earlier this year and I still haven't said two words to them yet. I think it's gonna be awkward when I have to ask them to fix something.
