i feel so underappreciated

My parents think I am a machine. For the past 12 years I've never given them anything to complain about in regard to my grades. Even when I did get top marks, they did nothing for me. They said "Keep it up, Maria," and went right back to watching TV or eating their fucking dinners. Then sophomore year came, and I was genuinely struggling to focus, ( Read more... )

ugh I so know how you feel, at least to some extent. My parents are the same way with my grades, too. And when I mess up, they tend to make offhanded comments about me that are so ridiculous and exaggerated and nowhere near the truth, like they don't even know me AT ALL.

I don't know. Parents just expect too much sometimes, and they forget that we're only 16, and that we SHOULD have a life outside of school. Ah. I don't get why they can't just appreciate the simple fact that we TRY, unlike most people.

I've no idea why, but I tend to see this situation with Asian parents. You get good grades and they tell you "you could've done better if you cut down on your computer time, yadayada..." I definitely feel you. :(
