"Rory, Lorelai," Emily said with forced cheer. She leaned forward in her seat. "Richard, the girls are here."

So, this is when I know something is good. When one little line can make me hear a voice in my head from a show I haven't watched in over three years. I could just hear Emily Gilmore saying this line, right down to the small pause she'd always have after saying Richard's name; not quite a full stop, but close. Beautiful. I can't wait to read the next part =)

Thanks :D Emily and Richard's voices were the loudest for me in this section. Both actors are so strong, so into their characters, that it's easy to "hear" them.

Plus Emily rocks, so there you go :)

Glad you like it!

Personally, my favorite part was the mini-scene with the general's secretary. Who is that btw?

And I loved this line:

Rory closed her eyes, the numbers and equations and movement dancing in her head like dying stars. She spoke clearly and concisely, outlining the solution as precisely as glass shatters into shards. Less than fifty words later, she was done.

The general's secretary is an OC. In the sections of fic I wrote (and discarded) yesterday, she is a Bertha, she knows three ways to kill a man with her pinky finger, and she can write shorthand. Jack had to go head to head with the other generals for her, steel cage match.

Thanks for your kind words about the prose :D

Heeee. But Jack knows how to fight -dirty- so he gets to keep her all to himself, no? ;)

Aww. Is she going to be a throwaway character or are we going to actually see her in the fic sometime too? :) I know this is a weird part of the fic to focus on (I apologize), but something about her really strikes my fancy. She just seems so in control of herself and her life, I suppose, which is a contrast to where Rory is atm. I just feel like her and Rory meeting would be ... interesting.

I'm not sure if we'll be seeing more of Bertha - Jack pops in and out of this story like a rice crispie in milk (it's early and i'm hung over - not at my best methaphoring strong suit). But no, Bertha's cool. I went over her dialogue four times to make sure it had the proper tone to it, so I'm totally stoked that part of that came across in the reading :D

There is more! *twirls* This last part is just ramping up the suspense. I can't wait for Rory to meet Rodney. I really really can't wait for his reaction! Of course, he already knows it is a possibility that she is his daughter, but still!

This part had a sort of dreamy quality to it. It was more introspective than the rest of this story I think, but I liked it. Can't wait for more!

I certainly hope this is the next epic! Especially when you promise something like: Chaotic and action-packed, yes. Plus explosions. Yes to explosions!

I agree with you that Rory was infantalized in the later seasons and it's nice to see your Rory with a little more maturity.

Only love from this fangirl! And if you don't mind, I'm going to friend you as well? Wouldn't want to miss a thing!

I'm kind of sorry I never watched past season 1 of GG so I'd get the inner workings of Rory's family life. This is a great chapter that lays out exactly what she's leaving in order to go to Colorado - all stuff I wouldn't have known otherwise.
I cannot wait to hear Jeannie's harangue of Rodney when she learns about all of this. I don't know if you're planning it, or what you think about the recent Jeannie ep of SGA, but I can hear her in my head threatening Rodney in a very big-sister way about the torture he's going to experience for not telling her, EVEN IF HE NEVER KNEW. Grin. Sisterly chewing-out usually holds very loosely to logic, which must just make Rodney more annoyed...
Looking forward to more. Didn't you post at the last one that there would be Vala soon? I'm guessing Vala will be the only one free and volunteering at the Mountain to keep an eye on Rory or something?
