The Canteen Question was about the Ice Prince.  So, looks who's not being silly in this picture.

Although he may have been in silly situations, IK/DM generally didn't do silly for posed photos.

I have a photo that I'm guessing was from early season one that is a candid shot. DM was shirtless and so painfully thin you can see his ribs (it had to have been before he filmed of ATWUTS). He was laughing at a soaking wet RV who was clowning for the photo. That sort of photo is a rare find.

I know that one! He looks downright pathetic. So much for our toned and taut Russian, eh...

Yep, the boy was skin and bones - thank goodness for the MGM commissary.

Is that picture online somewhere? A link would be nice . . .

At least, there is one serious man, here... LOL...
Love Waverly's fatherly resting his hands on their shoulders!

He looks so very handsome in this one, I don't mind that his expression is what it is.

Illya's a serious guy. Look how he refused to play dress-up with Napoleon and Mr. Waverly in "Pop Art".

(Of course, this is the same guy who was wearing flip-flops with a suit later on, so maybe he'll do silly as long as it's on his own initiative.)

The suit. You have to wonder if no one ever considered that the guy might have shown up in something a little less stoic than a black suit. On the other hand, practical and always ready for work.
The flip-flops and suits combo is not anything I can remember from my 60's childhood, but he shows up in several promotional photos like that. They must have thought it was very cool to repeat the look. I guess I would still prefer that to a v-neck sweater over a Dickie.
Ahhh...the 60's.

Would the flip flops be referencing the judo/karate skills?

They made him stop wearing his favorite clothes to the office (black turtleneck), so darn it, they're just going to have to deal with him in a suit on the green.

He's just got that subtle streak of rebellion ...

That ear is just beautiful, isn't it.
Actually, I think I had a picture very like this on the covour of my colouring book as a child, only he was holding a necklace. Maybe he still is and it is out of shot here.

(Sorry, been on the go since 4am and it is now after 10pm and time I was asleep.)

I also think it is time someone explained what was going on in The Man Who Lived at the Ritz. He actually looks grotesque in some of the scenes as if he has been overworkingout. Someone please explain.

Perhaps a picture like this explains why, after living in California for a while, he adopted a more vegetarian type diet. Fresh foods are the way of life there.

He certainly went from skinny to bulked up, like in the taking-off-the-black-teeshirt-in-the-car-scene where his shoulders were large, but maybe by Ritz he had overdone it?

(From, from, from...my bed is calling)

I think young men in Britain tend to always be a lot less bulky than those living in America. My theory was that it's all the meat eating, you get a lot more meat stateside and it makes people bulkier. But if he's a veggie i guess maybe it's just constant access to sunlight, maybe he was just deprived of vitamin D cause he fills out VERY quickly in those first few years, like when you give some grass Miracle-Gro.
