About those bad guys

It seemed to me that several of the episodes got really villain heavy, in that most of the attention went to them and not to the guys. First season seemed particularly bad, but it could also be that the guys weren't often together. However, that said, they had some really great villains in first season.

Who was your favorite first season villain

It has to be the Partridges. G. Emory Partridge is fantastically evil whilst maintaining the very best manners, but it is his wife Edith who I love more. She is your quintessential dotty old lady, only with a blood-thirsty streak which rivals Illya's.

Oh, I think she was much worse than Illya. He would never torture someone for fun.

You're absolutely right!

The Partridges are probably best; but I'd like to give an honourable mention to Rudolph.

I have to say that I have a soft spot for Dr. Egrets. A master of disguises, that one.

Certainly one of the most Oliver Twist-ed villians for all seasons.

She certainly knew how to play people. :D

From "Gazebo in the Maze Affair," I have to say both Emory Partridge and his wife. Unsuspecting Illya gets clobbered on the head and shackled in a dungeon. Napoleon gets racked. Wolf in the maze and a very disturbed Edith.

She was just this side of Marquis de Sade. :O

Captain Shark - which has nothing to do with my obsessive love for Robert Culp, of course. :P

Oh yeah. Love him, love that episode because of him.

I don't think of him as a villain, though.

Yes, I see him as more of a tragic anti-hero.

Agree entirely - which is what makes him far more interesting than many villains (and many innocents, for that matter). He was a good one.

Gervaise Ravel and Bufferton (he's pretty secondary).

She's great.

Really liked her too. Lots of interesting female baddies in Season 1: Dr. Egret, Angelique (though with her it's perhaps more in concept than in execution), Dr. Dabree.

I liked that they had really strong bad women in the first season. I just wish they'd have more strong good women.

I agree, but I guess the only women were secretarial staffers at UNCLE and innocents (and the bad gals, of course).

If a woman was capable, she wouldn't have fallen into the innocent category - although some did all right. Like Mrs. Whatsername from Vulcan - she was pretty solid all around. And Miss Fiddlesticks - for a ditsy girl, she came through as needed.

Edit to add: Tracy Alexander. Always liked her, and she was pretty cool under pressure.
