Sour Cream, Ham & Potato Soup

May 03, 2015 05:36

A_boleyn post this in her journal and I had to try it. It's not hard, except for the ham stock. I cheated and used chicken and this was seriously yummy. It was all I could do from eating it all myself.

Mmmm this sounds good. I just made boiled smoked ham butt with cabbage and potato which is basically the real Irish version of corned beef and cabbage. I use the left over stock to make a ham potato and cabbage soup. Never made a creamed version like this so will try it next time.

Thanks for posting this.

This was a serious kick ass soup. I'd not had anything that was so flavorful in eons. Next time I will make the ham stock, but we don't eat ham as a rule, so it's something I have to plan for.

It sounds like it. Will have to give it a go in a few weeks. Will let you know how it comes out.

In the UK recipes are all metric (kilogrammes) and imperial (ounces) most recipes give both and some now convert for cups.

Illya would be right at home (and I'm sure very satisfied with the results).

Happy eating folks :-)

Um ... it's possible this is just me, but ... where's the directions? All in a pot all at once? What level heat? How long?

Is all that something a normal person would already know? That wouldn't surprise me. I'm as ignorant as a rock about cooking. I seriously can never remember how to boil rice (the ratio of water to rice, that is) and once left out an ingredient from a three ingredient recipe.

Whoops - sorry. The directions are there now.

Yay. I thought "everyone else already knows how to make a soup, dummy." I wouldn't have been the least surprised. :-)

My dad was a really good cook and he used to make a stunningly wonderful corn chowder with many of these same ingredients. I want to try this and see if I can recapture any of that. :-)

I would never do that to anyone. That would just be nasty. I want people to enjoy and love to cook!

Best of luck and if you need any help, just give me a shout out.
