Sour Cream, Ham & Potato Soup

May 03, 2015 05:36

A_boleyn post this in her journal and I had to try it. It's not hard, except for the ham stock. I cheated and used chicken and this was seriously yummy. It was all I could do from eating it all myself.

Um ... it's possible this is just me, but ... where's the directions? All in a pot all at once? What level heat? How long?

Is all that something a normal person would already know? That wouldn't surprise me. I'm as ignorant as a rock about cooking. I seriously can never remember how to boil rice (the ratio of water to rice, that is) and once left out an ingredient from a three ingredient recipe.

Whoops - sorry. The directions are there now.

Yay. I thought "everyone else already knows how to make a soup, dummy." I wouldn't have been the least surprised. :-)

My dad was a really good cook and he used to make a stunningly wonderful corn chowder with many of these same ingredients. I want to try this and see if I can recapture any of that. :-)

I would never do that to anyone. That would just be nasty. I want people to enjoy and love to cook!

Best of luck and if you need any help, just give me a shout out.

I made a seafood chowder which was similar but pureed the potato/onion/carrot/celery base before adding the seafood. It was really good too. :)

I did a really yummy chicken chowder last night. I don't know if it was just extra good or the fact that it got me out of reorganizing the outside storage shed that made it that way, though.

I bet it was REALLY tasty. :) My supper was pizza and butter tarts for dessert.

My parents' former bedroom with all the clothes, taken out of the furniture I donated, and stacked up on chairs, has been a mess for 4 yrs. When I feel guilty, I just close the door. :)

At least the spare bedroom is neat. Big fluffy pillows and a duvet for snuggly comfort. Sometimes, it feel a bit lonely rattling around in this big old house by myself.

There are times I wish we had a bigger place, but then I start to clean and wonder why we have such a big place to begin with. Human nature is a fickle thing.

I like the location I'm at so moving isn't in the cards.

I'm home today, been up since 6am. Time for another coffee. I have to get some clothes on, maybe drop off a book at the library ... it's due tomorrow. And start some herbs.

That's us as well. No place is perfect always and we've done a lot to make this home. It's comfortable, there's enough room for the two of us to not be in each other's hair all the time. Yup, it's okay with me as well.

I'm glad you've gotten a down day to relax - you've been working a lot lately.

After 30 yrs in the place, I've got the routine of my life down. I hate to change it. :)

I was trying to work as much as I could (especially to make up for the previous slow months) but my body's not as sturdy as it has been so I thought I'd take the 3 day weekend. Plus, I need to get the savings up before the summer hiatus.

It's good that you've been able to work so much. I know you were really worried earlier in the year.
