Farscape and Meta on my own Sci-Fi Preferences

Nov 08, 2007 18:06

So I decided to check out this show because I enjoy both Cameron and Vala on SG-1. If I like a character, I usually try to find other work by the actor to evaluate if it's the character or the actor. Plus, I seem to be liking more and more sci-fi, so it seemed right ( Read more... )

Thank you! I shall then keep watching past S1. I was thinking I might just stop once I got to the end, there, but if it picks up, ok. I know the first time I watched SG1 eps I was bored by everyone but Jack but obviously, that changed. And BSG seemed boring at first, too, until I actually watched a whole ep.

Is that how you spell his name, Crais? I couldn't find it on IMDB for some reason.

What station did it originally air on? Did you know it was filmed all in Australia? That just seems so odd for American TV.

Lani John Tupu... thing is - he's the voice of Pilot too... but his PK character is Bialar Crais.

I recommend sticking it out. Season 1 is all Crichton getting used to Moya and the crew and is, in fact, kind of boring. Then it gets batshit INSANE. Like people started smoking heavy drugs, wrote down what they were thinking then filmed it.

One of the things you brought up is how they just take Pilot's arm. That sort of mentality became one of my favourite things about the show, something I think is missing when you watch so many shows where the main characters are in the (very structured and honour-based) military. It's just all these "people" in space and they act in their own best interests and sometimes its understandable and sometimes it appalling.

Still. I would recommend watching the later seasons if for nothing else than Aeryn and John are very, very pretty together.

Your post made for an interesting read. I actually stopped watching Farscape after season 1. People have told me though, that Farscape starts off really slow, and it gets better... so I should really continue watching it. O_o

That's what everyone's been telling me, too. So, hopefully it will. Just for me, if I don't like the show right away (11 eps in?) I won't like it in general. But maybe there was a writing change or something. lol

LOL You never know. It was like that with Bones... Season 1 was good. First half of season 2 was good, but the last half sucked. And now it's getting good again.

And it was like that with Standoff too. They had a change of writers half way through, but alas, it was too late.

Yup. And then there's the inevitable shows that they cut off when they're so damn good. Like Studio 60. And Justice. *sighs* TV.

My personal rule is to never truly judge a show (especially by its sets, because hey, this *is* scifi anyways -- not always the best sets ever xD) until mid season 2. *shrug* I love it.
