Last chance for this dub with me

Feeling an odd mix of masochistic and optimistic, I decided --mostly out of boredom-- to watch the last episode of Yami no Matsuei in English. Granted, it's practically impossible to find a 360p quality fansub on Youtube these days. I never noticed before, though, probably because I didn't stick around long enough to, that dub!Muraki has a slight ( Read more... )

D: I love Liam O'Brien as Hisoka. He is totally not afraid to tackle how much of a fucking wreck Hisoka is; I love the depth of the emotion he gives Hisoka. Plus he attempts (and many times succeeds!) to pronounce everyone's names correctly, which earns him an A in my gradebook. I never really thought he made Hisoka sound older, btu then I'm not good at gauging people's ages anyway.

Muraki's voice...you know, it never really bothered me that much? Most people want to scratch their ears out when they hear it, but for me, the "nasally brainiac" thing kinda fits. Since his whole MO is that his outer persona (dressed all in white, a respectable doctor) hides the fact that he's a psychopath, having a nerdy voice didn't seem out-of-place. I think the Southern drawl actually helps.

Not to say that given the choice between the dub and the sub, I'd take the dub. Because I would totally take the sub any day of the week. I just think that English!Hisoka was cast rather well, and English!Muraki is defensible.

I agree that Liam pronounces all the characters' names well (he never leaves out the T at the beginning of Tsuzuki). Dan Green was probably the best of everyone.

I get the whole "brainiac" aspect of Muraki's personality, but to me, Muraki has always been one of the most disturbing, scary villains I've encountered in anime. In the dub though, I'm just not scared of him; he sounds, to me, like a comical evil braniac.
