I don't think it means "better". There isn't a logical progression that leads me to that conclusion. At all. I think that different just means "different."

I had a very good time.... it was nothing to do with the company, because you are kind and patient and Squall is sensible. Squall helped me out a lot... I think that the problem was only with the noise and the alcohol.
